Cam Noobie.....Please Help

OK. I have a couple of questions. I will start out with that i have. 408w based on a 74 Marine block, Mildly ported GT40x, Victor Jr, with 11ish CR, will have a built c6 with a 3200ish stall, and possibly N20 later. I will be using the Comp Cams Hyd Roller conversion lifters....the $440 ones....(cries) I would like to use an off the shelf 5.0 cam because there are so many option. I know they have a different firing order, but i also heard that they have different cam bearing diameter. Does anybody know for sure? and would there be anything else from stopping me?

Assuming that i can use an off the shelf 5.0 cam i need some help choosing what i should get. I know given the engine combo that this will not be a 7500rpm screamer, and thats fine. It will never see above 6k, and i would imagine that with the combo that it would have peak power at about 5500 or so depending on the cam. I wouldnt mind if the idle is rough as long as it doesnt die at the stoplight. It is going to be a strip/cruising/fun car not a DD. I dont know much about cam specs but i know that the heads have peak flow at about .550 lift so i would want something with about that lift.

Thanks
Zach

With the strokers you can go with much more duration/overlap than would be acceptable on a 302 motor, so it may be tough to find a cam as large as you will want off the shelf.

I have not looked into the specs yet but Comp Cams XFI stroker series of cams are supposed to be pretty decent.

If you do go with a 302 cam, you'll want one of the bigger ones out there.

No such thing as a marine block, then I would have chosen a solid flat tappet custom ground cam instead of spending all that money to run a hyd roller and then stick a lazy off the shelf cam in it. These are just the run of the mill hydraulic link bar lifters right?
