Moved up from a SBC to a 2V to a 3V 4.6L. If I'm getting the cams changed out what other parts could I get the mechanic to replace at that time? I mean without really having to disassemble it or go any deeper.

Depending on what cams you go with you may have to swap out valve springs, its a good idea to do it anyway regardless if the cam lobes are going to require it or not, some cams such as Thumpr cams dont "require" valve spring changes, but its still a good idea to do so anyway

I have thumpers and didn't switch out the springs - and it runs fine - I have more problems w/the tune more than anything else - check brenspeeds cams ( I think detroit rockers) - I hear they aren't as crazy (my RPM's 'ramp-up' / won't 'kick' dwn when I put the A/C on ) as the mutha thumprs NSR - but it's the exhaust that makes it sound bad ass - my wife won't 'ride' in the car - so once I switched it over to the stock H-pipe - you could barely even hear the cams - so they are mostly heavy on the exhaust lope - but not that radical - my 2 cents......... fyi - you'll need phaszers and new cam bolts when you install / chain tool ....gaskets are reusable - but if you high miles replace them - new tune ....

I would'nt go with the Mutha thumprs (although I really really like them ) - I have a 4.6 in my 2007 GT - I'd have to pull the cam card - it's the one w/NSR no springs required - probably their stage I - I would suppose - it's been like 2 yrs since I put them in - they are cheap now - $700 - I paid like $950.00 - if your mechanical skills are just average don't attempt - I had a Ford tech buddy of mine do the surgery - I painted the valve covers - (I'm a paint a bod guy) - planning on taking my car to place to get it totally re-tuned- pretty radical up-grade - I get compliments all the time - people are like 'what the F do you got in that thing?'...... that w/4:10's - shorties /off road H pipe / ( I have a Bullett CAI ) - you'll feel it when you take off - ;)
