I will be adding a supercharger to my stock bottom end with the mods I have in my sig, plus a cam. I have seen a lot of guys go up to 10# of boost from blowers on the stock blocks (non-intercoolerd) but you have to make sure you upgrade your fuel system and igntion. If you are completely stock, I wouldn't put a blower on first. I would do gears, exhaust and other bolt ons first before i put a blower on. Hope this helps some.
Hey there, I've got a Vortech S-trim on a stock 95 Cobra engine, and it's been quite impressive. The weak link will be your stock pistons though. Make sure you get the ignition module and adjust your air/fuel to be sure it's not too lean. Preingnition and/or running lean will shatter the stock pistons. Also, make sure you're venting the crankcase or you'll "blow a seal".

As for boost, that is not a good way to measure. On a 100% stock setup, I would expect that you would see 15 to 20 psi of boost before breaking anything. The weakest part of the engine is the block itself, and it should handle upwards of 500 horsepower. But I think I'd aim for 400 to 450 rwhp to keep good reliability.
What's really important is the tune. A bad tune will kill even the stoutest motor dead. Lucky for us, the 5.0 is likely to blow a headgasket with a bad tune before it actually destroys any parts.
Bottom line: Put the blower on, get 42's,matching MAF, GSS340 pump, Tune up kit, 2 step colder plugs, Blaster coil, and take it to have someone professional tune it. your SET after that..(if you dont go switching pulleys and timing around)
