Hi guys!
I found this not original engine in a barn. The previous owner claimes it original came from a mustang. I belive it`s a 302, but what year? The valvecovers say "power by Ford", and the only number I can find is F2F01FZ07832F. Can somebody please help me identify it?

Can you pull some casting numbers off the block, heads, intake along with some date codes?

Realmongo> The only visible numbers is F2F01FZ07832F and b30e-9426. The flywheel semes to be modified, it has headers, and what is left of the carburettor lookes like a armalite 4100. Any guesses?

Looks like a windsor... 260,289,302, or 351W.

My guess is it's a marine engine, the tan dizzy cap looks like a MerCrusier cap, But that red color is like Volvo-Penta.

Looks like a 2 barrell 289 or 302 out of a car to me.

I believe "Power By Ford" valve covers where only used in late '67, '68 and I think early '69.

That F2 engineering number is whacked. That would be 1992. E7 = 1987 I doubt that highly.

I was not even aware that it was an ingeneering number! can a "decoder" for such engineering numbers be found anywhere on the web?
The engine has been resting in a -70 Mustang, according to the previous owner, but i`m not sure this is to be taken for granted. (wich defines the point of asking you guys)

Anti-diesel solenoid, some smog fittings, I agree with the mid-70's guess. lousy red paint job, and the cap is definitely an aftermarket ACCEL cap.

Yeah it could be out of anything late 60's to early 70's judging from the carb. and stuff.

I would just assume it's a 289 or 302 smallblack and call it a day. Exactly what it is, isn't gonna matter unless you have a specific need for it like a concours resto or soemthing like that.

If you buy it and don't want those valve covers, I'd be interested in them. I'd also might be interested in the alternator mount if you don't need it. That's the 2 brackets on the left side of the water pump. One has 3 holes the other has a hole and a long slot. I am looking for those for a possible street rod project.

Sure you want to pay to have them shipped from sweden? That could end up being pretty expensive...

One more thing: the engine have some weird screw-in freezeplugs. Is that normal for mid 70 engines? And can I get aftermarketparts for that, or can I just use ordinary freezeplugs?

Hello Sweden !! Look for a casting number on the intake manifold.. like a D3OE-6250-B
and firing order of 15426378 or on the carb there will be a small alum tag with like numbers... D3OE .. the ford guides are: 1960--"C", 1970.. D, 1980...E ect!! the year is after that.. 1964= C4, or 1978=D8, cool?? Now the carb and intake could have been changed!! but that will help on the year!!

Screw in freeze plugs..... out of a 1970 Mustang.... HMMmmmmmmm... Are they the threaded metal screw in freeze plug or a rubber and bolt type!! The metal threaded screw in freeze plug is ONLY ONE!! The 1970 BOSS 302 block!! 4 bolt mains.. steel crankshaft, rods that will live at 8000 rpm!! OH make sure cause the block ( IF it is a BOSS) is priceless!! Now the BOSS 302 came with a 351C head with modified water passages.. but the block could be one with a head change!! Get a better look and let us know... who Knows what has ended up over there with all those Blondes!!!

Just me................................

....then again, it could've been rebuilt along the way and someone put threaded freeze plugs in it.....not an uncommon change...

looks to me like a 67-72 302. If it had 289 heads on it the bolt threads on the two front intake bolts show. On 67 up 302 heads there is a pad cast into the front of the heads to cover (make stronger) the front two intake to head seal (is my guess).

Boss 302 have Cleveland style heads and are nearly wide as a single over head 4.6 head..........so its definely not a 302 boss set of heads.

doesnt look like anything to special. like someone stated unless its needed for a concours restore.

year they are threaded. Didn`t know that was specific for BOSS engines. But, unfortunately, the number on the block is, as far as i can tell from the guide, not original, and earlyer tonight someone told me that the first two digits didn`t mach anything. Besides, who wouldt put a 2-barrel on a BOSSblock?
Now tell me, how do i differ 302 heads from 351? And didn`t the BOSSheads have four valves per cylinder?

jackchan> perfect! So I can assume this is a 302 from late 60-early 70 with standard heads and intake, and that the screw-in plugs are added later on? Thankyou all for serious and usefull answers, this is most helpfull!

the screw in freeze plugs could be add on. Many people with performance in mind like the idea of a block having screw in freeze plugs especially in the early years performance. IT could be a hi-po 289 but then again why would it have a 2 V carb on it instead of a 4 V carb. Ya just never know why people do some of the things they do. lol

if you could see under the dist.....most hi-po engines came with dual points if I remember correctly.
good luck on figureing it out

I have a set of 4V cleveland heads. If I knew how to post them I would post a picture so you could see the difference in those and the 289-302 heads.

Best guess is a 68 to 70 302.

I see a Motorcraft 2bbl carb, automatic choke, a points dist, cast iron intake, front mount dipstick, spark plug wire loom brackets on the valvecovers

Its got to have some numbers, on the intake, on the heads, under the valvecovers etc. .
