can i run high 13's?

Buddy of mine is a classic example of this. He has a 1989 formula firebird. With a 700r4, and a TPI 350. He pulled his front sway bar and pulled the spare, rear seats ect ect. Also he had a catback. Not much at all.

We only have a 1/8th mile track here but he was running 8.7's consistently. LS1 guys were asking his how much nitrous he was running because he was beating them by close to a half a second. I guess they couldn't drive.

Brings up another point.... many times we see posts about how a 5-speed driver knocked off 8 tenths with an intake. When in reality they have been going to the track all year and practicing their driving skillz. They would have dropped their ET without changing a thing on their car. :D

Ive only been to the track once and got my 14.5. I need to start going more.

i had a 85 z28 once upon a time with a 305tpi and a 700r4. that thing was quick

Yup, to me dyno numbers are just numbers. Seen too many cars that had great HP numbers and nothing on the street or the track. Then I've seen cars that dynoed low and ran great on the street and track.

I own a car to drive.... not to brag about.

SOTP is what i want but i gotta say...a dyno sheet that would read "300whp" would def make me happy.

i agree tho. ive seen guys make 20 less hp and run better times in the same type of car, same CI.

I understand ... for sure

In no way am I wanting to dispute what you say here :nono:
BUT
I feel there is more to be added
than
Just me saying ... I agree with You :D

At one time in my life ... I just about lived at the 1/4 strip
so
I feel I got a good bit of experience in that environment
and
I've seen just about all different kinds of peeps .......
try to go down the 1320
with
all different kinds of ... well ... lets call it effectiveness :rlaugh:

Some can drive :nice:
Some can't :notnice:
Some could or have the potential ;)
but
they keep doing all the same things over & over
hence
they make no improvement :bang:

My point is ... you got all kinds of different people factors
which
Can or Could ........ skew 1/4 mile performance

So ... that skewing can be for the positive or negative

Of course ... look at enough data
and
an average is gonna surface :D

You can have a quick 1320 car :)
but
It can suck for a street car :(

Just as you pointed out :nice:

Impressive Dyno results don't always make a quick 1320 car

I would have to say this about Dyno results
and IMHO
This is where most get side tracked about those results ;)

Peeps too quickly focus on the PEAK values

I would submit to the forum ..........

A set of curves with strong low & mid range
is gonna scoot down the 1320 just dandy
but
If he can't drive ... one could be mislead by his et's

True ... some wanna brag about their dyno results
but
In most of those cases ... they only see the peak values

I see more and get more from VALID sae Dynojet Pulls
and
All the more so
when
I can do an apples to apples comparison ;)
between
A combo with peak numbers that has all the forums buzzing
and
A combo that might give up a little peak
for
a strong and flat low/midrange torque curve

You could have a car that seems wicked fast on the street :)
and
is a turd down the 1320 cause the guy can't drive :(

I see both strip and dyno results as having ........
good & bad points to judge performance

I just see peeps skewing dyno less than the 1320 method :D

My old 88 Iroc was decent one I got the 383 in there. 383 with 2.73 non-posi was retarded lol. I had the motor and tranny done but never got to the rear end before I sold it.

It was carbed..and I hated it but it looksreally nice for a turdgen camaro.

My brothers 1994 lt1/6 speed is sweet. If I could find a deal like he did I'd snag it. He got a really clean, loaded 6 speed Z with 70k for 4k.
