I was over on the turbo stangs forum and read something about not running a pcv system at all, and just running breathers in the VC. Can I do this as I did have a fiar amout of oil being sucked up through the valve and into the upper intake.

Are you against running a catch can?

Well, i dont know much about the system and i get confused EVERY time i read through one of those threads because there are so many different setups out there that work for people.

But if u shut the PCV, then pressure would build up wouldnt it? You can get those breather tanks from summit for around $40 i think.

Better yet, have u tried the walmart air/oil seperator? Its only $12. I would give you mine but after shipping you would be better to go to walmart to get it. THere was a thread about those a little while ago.

I think if it were as simple as eliminating the PCV, people would be doing that instead of doing breathers/evac setups.

There is a difference between allowing something to expel on its own (egress when pressure is too great) vs having engine vacuum actively sucking it out. The PCV is better for this scavenging and will help the motor's efficiency.

Good luck.

Ok, you sold me on the walmart method... Ill pick one up once i get my engine in the car. Do you just put it inbetween the pcv valve and the T fitting?

I asked a few mechanics the same question and they said "well, I guess you could do that". I"ve never really gotten a solid answer from someone, but I've sen alot of people run a breather on each valve cover and no PCV.

Yea just put it somewhere after your pcv and before the intake. There was a thread about it if u feel like searching.Although its really straight forward.

There are guys that run NO PCV but run dual VC breathers.

I understand how to install it, was just double checking on where to put it. It works like a water seperator in a compressor. Thanks for the info guys!

Gotcha. Mine is on the pass firewall. I think Andy's is on the driver firewall.

You have to remember, the PCV system wasn't used even on factory cars until sometime in the mid 60's (I think that's when).

I don't run one on my car - can't - boost blows the dipstick out. What I did was run -12 lines from fittings on each valve cover to filtered catch cans. I plugged the PCV vacuum line, gutted a PCV valve and run the line from the PCV hose to a Campbell-Housfeld air compressor oil seperator and then to my fenderwell. You DO get occasional oil smell, but that's the only down side. You DO need large lines to do this though. Plain old filters on the VCs will probably drip oil on the headers.

Im a little confused on what you did with your pcv....so u have a regular pcv in the lower intake with the end of the hose plugged? Is the air/oil seperator open to the air? Where is the gutted PCV valve?

You should be able to ditch the pcv valve if you run an EVAC set up.

No, I have a PCV valve with the 'guts' (valve) removed - I band sawed the end of the valve off and took out the plunger. I put this back into the PCV hole in the back of the intake, ran the hose that used to go to vacuum to a seperator (WalMart $15) then ran a hose from the seperator to the fenderwell.
Pictures may help:
Here is the breather from the valve cover - both are done this way...

And finally the old PCV hose - it is blurry, but you can see the seperator along the firewall...

i had run my car for a while with just a breather, and the oil mist smell was killing me. What i did was just add a check valve in the line and hooked the pcv back up, so it closes under boost(my stock pcv was leaking), and just put a breather where it was on the oil fill neck
