Can i tune my car myself?????

My car is running awesome now, making 10 pounds of boost. Very soon i will be converting to amss air and getting 36 lb injectors..

The last few times at the dyno i took close note on what they did..... they hooked it up to air fuel and took it for a hard 4th gear run ajnd got the air fuel..... from there, they either richened it or leaned it out from my AFPR,,,

The shop recently closed down and i have no access to a dyno...

i thought to myself... Why cant i tune it myself based on what they do???? Daggar from stangnet told me about his air fuel moniter, an LM-1 for around 400 buckls, but i found a different one that seems to have more features for the same price, 400 bucks.. it moniters air/fuel, EGT, boost, and RPM, comes with a nice display that i can mount in my middle consul, or laptop compatible.

http://www.zeitronix.com/Products/zt2/zt2.htm is what im tlaking about

Couldnt i take a 4th gear pull down the road to see whats going on with my air/fuel? and then going from there to tune the car right??? The unit will be hardwired to my ignition so that it will be on constantly whent he car is running... what do you guys think??? my dad will probably buy me that for xmas if i want it, and i think it would be a good investment

thanks joe

Seems like a good idea. Simple tuning can be in your driveway and taking the car out for test drives. BY monitoring your exhuast and spark plugs, you can tell the condition your motor is it. That seems like a nice product. The reason so many people go to the dyno is not just to "tune" their cars, but mostly for a custom chip, to override the stock ECU fuel and timing curves. When you dealing with positive atmospheric pressure and large injectors, its wise to have a professional tune/chip it if you plan on using the stock ecu and want to pull max hp from the motor. I would say try it out, see what happens, and write a review for us. Good luck.

wow first positive comment u made about me! lol... .. its a big step from my last actions right?(tuning it by what i FELT was right) lol.... anyways i think i will consider this product and will mount that display in my dash somewhere... somewhere creative... ill deffinately let yas know how it goes!

although, when using that tuner, i dont think your gonna want to use 4th gear. By the time you end your gonna be going well over a 100mph whereas at the dyno your car is stationary.

4th gear is a 1:1 ratio and provides the true rwhp to the wheels...and it the better gear to tune on a dyno...

But 4th gear is pretty fast on the street wound out at 6k but just be careful...and be smart about it...

yepp i hear what your saying.... if the air fuel gets dangerously lean by the time its up there, ill deffinately back off, richen it up, and try again...

it deffinately caught my attention. Daggar was telling me about the one he has in his car, and convinced me into buying one.. when i did a search, i found this one that i linked... I think i am getting that for xmas and i will mount the screen into the upper part of the dash... i will without a doubt give you guys a review of this!
