Can My Stock GT Handle a Kenne Bell 14PSI Kit?

Basically the same as the topic, Can My Stock GT Handle a Kenne Bell 14PSI Kit?

My motor is all internally stock, just intake and exhaust. What I want to know is what will I need to do to my engine to prepare for this 14psi kit, if anything. Any feedback is awesome!

hmm that is a lot of boost, you would really have to pull some timing with that much. I dont think anyone has made that much on a GT yet with the KB system. I think most have been turning it down.

Better to run lower PSI with more timing increased than it is to run more PSI with more timming pulled.

Well, I want at least 480-490 RWHP for under $6000. I was thinking maybe some Cobra heads and the KB system? Of course a good timing adjustment and a dyno tune...

i am sure it will handle it, the question is for how long. the kind of hp you are talking about might just require that you DO spend more than 6k, i.e. a forged shortblock and all the goodies.

for 6 grand? Wont get you there without blowing the motor. Build the motor first then start adding power. I would go with a twin turbo if I had that type of money.

Well the bottom line is I want the 14+ psi KB system to work, and I need it to be my daily driver as well. So a forged block, heads, what else?

I believe that when several of the magazines did a test on an otherwise stock GT they said that with the 14psi you would have to run racing octane fuel. Running a stock GT on a 14psi KB on pump gas = borrowed time for the engine. The 9 and 11psi kits are more stock engine friendly kits and you can use high octane pump gas. It might be possible to run a 14psi kit with an extremely safe tune for high octane pump gas but I think they really haven't put much R+D into a street friendly 14psi kit. It's more for built motor racing engines.

So you think 10-11 PSI is safe for my application? I want the most HP out of a KB kit with other small mods. I have about $7500 to play around with, but I need brakes too.

brakes dont make you go fast.

If I had 7500, stage 2 heads, cams, valve springs and a procharger but thats my plan. actually I would probably just get the short block and heads.

No they don't make you go fast, but they help to keep you from dying fast... I want just as much stopping power as go power.

Stock block wont work for those kind of numbers. You need to talk to cobrakiller.

For that boost level you will need to fill up the tank with high octane gas (100+). That's the only way that the stock block will handle the added power. I would just stick to the 9 psi kit and get all the KB goodies...switch chip, CAI, Big Tube, 70 mm TB. With that combo, you should see 430rwhp which is more than an extraordinary hp number. Enjoy
