can someone comeover and help me

well they say the stock rear end is good for around 300hp. my goal is to have around 300-350 RWHP, so i have some time. they also say the V8 is better for the rear end then the rotory. because, the rotors make all the power up high in the revs, you have to do high rpm clutch drops, the 5.0 has power on demand, meaning i dont need to rev to 6k or more. but i completely see what your saying. granny's speed shop is now selling kits that adapts the 8.8 rear end to the rx-7. i will prolly enventually get one of those.

a great website for others to see Rx-7's with other types of engines is www.torquecentral.com awesome site.

Can't travel to Cali (can't even understand why anyone would want to live there), but describe the project and many people will be able to chime in with what they screwed up.

I know I can tell a few good stories myself.

It's called sunshine... and it's pretty nice. I assume you've lived in the NW your whole life and probably never heard of it though, so no worries. :p

mustangGT85... that looks like an awesome project. :D If I was anywhere at all near you I'd come look it over, alas, I am not. Can't wait to see the finished photos...

I know if you dont find a turbo II in the local JY you can still pick up a rear out GXL or any rear model that is higher than the base model. The base model is the only RX that didnt come with a LSD. Well I am speaking of the 86 and up FC (for you ricers). Oh and the base models rear end size is smaller than any other model. I dont know much about the actual swap just wat RX parts are better. Thats all I know...

that's a great project... a friend of mine is putting the finishing touches on a 3rd gen RX-7 w/ a 331 stroker and a t-66, he said the turbo will fit, but i have my doubts...
it should haul some a$$ without the turbo

thanks, well, my plans with this project would be more like this, you'd be looking at me, and i would be looking at you, prolly giiving you a thumbs up, because i love foxbodies, you'd smile and give a friendly rev, i'd rev back, but it would sound like a stock car from the factory, very quite. if we decided to run, i'm not sure who would win and i'm not going to theorize yet. but afterwards i'd pull by you and hit a switch from inside the car(i want one of these http://www.dmhperformance.com/ [its an electric cut out]). THEN you'd piss your pants, cuz it will have the sound of open headers on a small block V8. hehehe

on the outside of the car, i dont want anyone to know what it has on the inside. the most i'm going to have is a 2.5inch exhaust dump into a single 3 inch out the back, in the stock position. most people will prolly think its just an aftermarket muffler. and my car is a GS model, i'm going to take the one badge in the back, and make it say GT instead of GS. other than those two things i guess rims and lowering it. the car is gonig to look stock. pretty much the way it does in the picture. its going to be clean. i'm debating on all black with black or bronze rims, or all white with black or bronze rims. i'm not sure yet.

hey stangateyourlilss, i'm going to take you up on that offer. i'll give you a call.

again thanks everyone for posting such positive feed back on this thread. it makes it worthwhile doing this project.

More Pics!!

well, i got some updates. i got the car cranking over by turning the key. no more hotwiring it. i got most of all the cooling done(but lets wait til its under pressure to call it done). i also got my 59 inch serpentine belt on there. and i'm tying up most of the loose ends i have with the wiring. next big thing to tackle is the fuel system, and i think she might be ready to go.

upper radiator hose

Lower radiator hose

Very clutterd veiw of the engine

these numbers represnt pounds i've saved by taking off the engine/car

my car from the backside

what the hell is this thing? it came out of the passenger side fender. do i need it?

i also got my transmission oil cooler on

the coolest picture EVA!

man i have about 3 and a half rolls of just pictures of my project. lol

that stuff in the fender is your cruise control. Good j0b on the project, it's coming along real sweet. Since you're local, I've love to see it at a ford show sometime.

well just giving an update, i got the car running today. yay. that was the biggest obstical in this entire swap. but thank god, i met a really cool guy on torquecentral.com He has a chevy Ls1 93 Rx-7. really nice and fast car. and he helped me with my electrical. he got my electrical done in less than 4 hours, over the spread of 2 days. and he had never even worked on a 5.0 before. what a crazy cool guy.

so far, i have started it 3 times, and the belt has slipped off each time. i'm running March's AC and PS delete kit. and i think the reason it keeps slipping off, is because the alignment of my tension pulley is slighly off with the rest of the pulleys. hopefull a couple thin washers will take care of that, hopefully. now its time to fix all the little bugs, like the belt slipping off. just wanted to give an update, thanks for all the encouragment. and hopefully it will be only a week or so before i start terrorizing the streets of Socal. lol

i have a buddy here who had a ls1 in a rx-7 (i think its an86 or 88) until it spun a bearing.. Now he's putting a 6.0L out of a esclade in it with a 6 speed behind it.. swap look good man.. should be a pretty good sleeper car.. good luck wit the rest of the project.

Fram? are you talking about the oil filter? sorry, its been a while since i slept, and i thought you were talking about the air filter, and i was like....i dont have an airfilter, then on top of that my internet is going extreamly slow, so i cant veiw the pics. lol

well thanks guys. i appreciate the comments.

Philly: that is going to be one mean ass Rx-7 your buddy has. i think if i were to do another swap, i'd prolly try my hand at a Ls1 FC(86-92). with the custom exhaust and a cam. that makes around 400RWHP. cant really beat that. but, i'd also like to make this a daily driven 12 second car. weighing in at around 2450lbs, it doesnt take too much hp.

~Steve

oh, when i went out to lunch with my buddy dan(he has an LS1 FD), he was showing me something under the hood, when a young guy comes around, you could tell he liked the Rx-7's before he even got to the engine bay. and the look on his face when he saw the corvette cover...priceless:

he's like...wtf. how'd that fit in there. haha.
