Can This Manual Pitman Arm be Greased?

It's on an early 67 manual steering car and I haven't found any replacement for it.
The stud that goes into the center link turns okay but it's original equipment and any grease that was in it in 67 is long gone by now.
Can I drill and tap the little bump on the backside of the stud for a grease zerk like tie-rods are done?

The stud turns nicely so I'm not really interested in rebuilding as much as just improving the original design with a grease fitting. Think that can be done?

you can drill and tap the cover as you have sugested, but keep in mind where all the shavings are going to end up (murphy's law, you know!) after you are done tapping you can flush out all the old grease and crud with carb cleaner , install the zerk, pump'er up with grease, and be on your way.

Good point chromedog.
I had it suggested to me to go slow and, at the point of breakthru, put some heavy bearing grease on the bit to capture the shavings.
