Can you sell a car in another state w/o a title?

I have a 92 mustang gt i got in TX im wanting to sell in cali... is there anyway a new owner can obtain a new title or anything?

the dude i bought it from got it from his son who lost the title a while back in school

if it's just going to be a race car don't even worry about it. Otherwise it's a huge pain to obtain a title for a car that is missing one and is that old. At least I know it's a lot of time and paper work to do something like that in PA.

i would say - if it were in the same state. but i think your gonna run into trouble with diff. states. lots more bs to deal with. call DOT in your state, ask them anonymously about lost title, see what they say about inter-state transfer.

If you can prove the history of how you got the car, how long you have owned it, etc... you should be able to file for a lost title with the State. Not hard, just gotta get all the documentation the State needs. Fill out the forms and wait a bit.

I had bought a car with a lost title here in TX. I contacted TXDOT and was mailed 3 forms. I had to send them to the last registered owner, who had to sign them and have them notarized then mail them back to me. After that, I was able to get a transferable title for the car. It was really pretty simple just took about 3 weeks to do it all with the mailing and such. This was back in 1998, dont imagine it has changed too much. i have had it for a while now and dont live in tx anymore i dont kno if it is possible to track the previous owners down... i bought the car as a roller and i put my engine and trans and stuff in there
