Hey, OP.. just an fyi, I'm not sure I understand your plan completely, but it sounds like you plan on using a stock 5.0 flywheel on your 351.. that won't work. You need a 28 oz imbalance 157 tooth wheel for the 351. The 302 uses a 50 oz imbalance wheel. Most of the factory 351 flywheels were 164 tooth; a little larger in diameter and won't work on a fox.

I know I cannot use the 5.0 flywheel, my question was if I could use the stock 5.8 truck flywheel but the engine didn't come with that.

I looked at that one too. It uses a 10" clutch, the fox uses a 10.5" clutch. It might work with an early model clutch, but I wouldn't go that route.
I can keep looking,...... but it ain't my car. It's out there though. If I could find one to fit the termi engine in the Cobra,..there's certainly one to fit a 351 w/ a 157t flywheel and a 10.5" clutch.

It might be.. but for ~$50 why not just get the billet steel unit?

I get that 50 bucks is 50 bucks, but you can't use a real performance clutch on an iron flywheel. It will destroy itself. Ask me how I know.

Whachutalkinaboutwillis? The price of your billet wheel was 240.00 the price of the wheel I linked was 140.00....100 bucks IS 100 bucks.

And,....I'm not thinking that the OP will be the guy that puts a 6 puck clutch on anything anytime soon.

So you are saying using a billet flywheel in the long run would be better then just slapping in a standard one? I don't think I will need a high torque clutch for now. I appreciate all of you giving me help with this.

It's worth the money.. trust me when I tell you that you'll eventually need a real clutch.

@madmike1157 The second link I posted was for $159.xx and I didn't use a six puck clutch. That's a stage 3. The stage 2 is a kevlar disc. Still tears the hell out of cast iron. Badly.
 
What about a k-member? I have read many threads where they have used an aftermarket k-member, would this be worth the $300? I know they say you have more room for long tubes, but for just a street and maybe a couple times a year the strip. Big headache? Fairly simple?

All I know is that you and I both laid under cars back in the day replacing clutches that were living under pressure plates bolted to a cast iron flywheel. Short of certain aggressive composites like Kevlar,..I'm sure that there are still upgraded clutch materials that are more than capable of co-existing w/a cast iron flywheel that won't prematurely fail....

But,...to address the OP's reply directly above...........

80/20. In 80% of the applications, you'll never get hurt by taking the high road in anticipation of a high performance build. In other words a billet steel flywheel will always be the high road that won't have a down side.

Now when talking about installing a C6 in place of a C4, or a 9" rear in place of an 8.8......different story.

If 400-450 is the goal , that would be easily achevable with just a turbo kit and the supporting fuel , ignition , and tune .

I like the idea of the low end torque of the 351 and being able to say I rebuilt the engine and I put it in the car, but I have always loved the sound of a turbo spooling. My car has 15xk on it and I would have to do a comp test to make sure it is up to the task of handling boost.
