The car is dirty. Got to love winter time and haven't got time to go wash it.

I wish. I don't have the money for both and believe me if I did it would be done. Here is my thought for now. Fresh rebuild on the 351. Little bit of work on the factory heads, ok intake and some 3.73s. Would this net me at least 13 in the quarter? Better? Worse?

If done right it should get you in the low 13s....12s are doable.

Can this be had on the stock cam with rockers? Or would it just be better to use an aftermarket or custom ground cam? Just trying to get all on my ducks in a row before I start the rebuild process. Still trying to find a stand and hoist I can borrow from someone around here but not having any luck, so on to harbor freight it is.

A camshaft and roller rockers would definitely increase the ability for a 12s e.t.

I'm not a camshaft specialist but I do know if you call CompCams they'll help you choose a cam that will put you where you want to be.

Awesome! I Thanks for the help. I am also curious how loud would this car be with an h-pipe installed? I have the factory catted pipe with Pypes M-80 mufflers and its not bad unless your in low rpm under a load(4th gear about 45 mph). Of course these are dumbed right in in front of the axle. If I had to I could put the tail pipes back on but don't really want to.

So I did lots of thinking about this. I really like this idea, but I am afraid it will make too much power for the chassis and the T-5 in the car. I do not have the funds to change the transmission to what I want, T-56. Down the road I would like to do this but I cannot afford to. I suppose what I could do is turbo 351w, low boost around 8ish maybe, and then later I can put a stronger trans and stiffen chassis and turn that SOB up.

I've seen T5 transmissions live behind some strong motors, but its all about how you drive them....and what tires are on the car. In the street with street tires you won't have enough traction to kill the T5 unless you miss a gear.

Man you're thinking right, though. The chassis and everything else would be stressed out...and you wouldn't be able to have fun with a dinky T5. We'll see how long mine lasts behind this turbo 331. All it takes is that one time...and BAM !!! No mo' second gear. Then I'll have a reason to justify a T56 to the wife...

Lets just say I don't baby my car everywhere. I have had this car 2 years I think and I am I on my 3rd set of rear tires. Changing the gear ratio in this car would help a lot but if I go turbo they need the gear to pull against. Lately I have been leaning towards just selling the 351 and going turbo 302. I just cannot make up my mind.

Do the 351. You'll out grow the turbo 302 and won't have any room to make more power. If I could do it all over again ( which I'm sure I will ) it would be a turbo 393 under my hood. It would make more power than I could put down if need be. Also, would take less boost to make the power.

I think you have talked me into it. I wish I could get the turbo stuff before I drop the motor in. Maybe easier to install if I get before the motor is in the car? I don't know. This will be a learning experience for sure! I am super excited. Now to find an engine hoist and stand. I have researched the whole cylinder head thing and I think if I do turbo this engine I will just have the factory heads gone through and just have better valve spring installed so I do not get valve float. I think you said to use 1.7 roller rockers? Stock cam or still have a cam custom ground?

My stock t5 is surviving (for now) behind my build.
It's just a little 306 with a eaton blower making 10psi....and 400ftlbs torque at the wheels

If I were you I'd contact CompCams or another can manufacturer and talk to them about what you want. In a perfect world you would buy a separate cam for NA and another for when turbo. They may know a happy medium that would give decent outputs in both scenario's.

They have plenty of off the shelf cams designed to work with stock 351 motors and heads. They can also advise rockers and springs.

Going turbo is a different breed altogether. I'm doing a budget On3 build and already have a lot of money in just supporting stuff for the turbo system. Without the turbo I'd have another 4-5k to play with. An NA engine is way way cheaper to build.....and less time to get tuned right. I could've been driving my car last year. Smh

I'm not saying turbo isn't the way to go....I like the challenge, but its the most difficult way to increase power. You could bolt on a supercharger and drive it in the same weekend. Way less heat and less supporting parts.

This is good to know. Hopefully I can still bang gears after all this, at least for awhile anyway.

I see what you are saying about the cost. I have added up everything from doing a simple gt40 head and intake swap to doing procharger/vortech, to ON3 turbo set up, NA 351w, turbo 351w, stroked 351w to 408, to selling the whole car and buying guns. I have done lots and lots of researched reading forums and trying to find people around here that I could ask questions. Now that I have asked you fine gentleman on this here forum, I have many of the questions I couldn't quit get answered reading other forums. One last question I have not found a really clear answer for:

What swap headers do you use? Can you use a set for a fox? SN95 specific?

I know a few people that used Hedman el'cheapo headers from summit for the swap. You'll also need a Hedman long tube h pipe. Unless you know a muffler shop that can make one.

All of them have painted or coated them. My headman headers got painted with flame proof grille paint. You've got to take a torch and scorch the paint that's on there and heat cure the grille paint after painting some people sand blast them. The issue is the stock paint that comes on them gets chalky..some leave it alone....I don't.

The headers can be a PITA. The bottom of the firewall needs to be clearance with a BFH sometimes. Tubes have to be messaged a little sometimes. Make sure you have a good starter when you put the on.

Its crazy- the swap kit has gone up to 1k. I'm not sure what accesorie brackets you'll need...if no one answered that question already.

From what I have read about the accessories, since my car is a 95 they should bolt up to the new engine. Maybe I have read wrong information? I really want to keep p/s and a/c so I hope everything runs smooth.
