car breaks up and pops at about 3grand

i have a 1987 mustang gt stock 5.0 5speed and ive been experiencing a driveabilit yissue when the car revs past 3 thousand rpm it pops thru rthe exhaust and stumbles. anybody with some insight would be very much apreciated.

Right off the bat I'd say look at fuel filter, air filter.

its a long shot, but I had a bad ground where the drivers side head connects to the body. I had the same issues. Check it out, it only takes a second.

check the PIP pickup INSIDE the distributor, just replace it. Does it do it all the time or when the car warms up?

I second the PIP sensor, either that or the TFI module.I have had 3 TFI modules go bad in 2 different Fords the last 3 years.When my PIP sensor went bad it would buck and revs would stop at 35-4000 rpm depending on load.
