Thought I'd update on the fire
First to answer a couple question people asked (since it's been awhile) I left for Yuma after the fire for 2 week of annual training (currently int he reserves though I just recontracted for OCS so as soon as I finish college I'll be going active and to flight school.) Desert Talon was right before or right after I was there, i forget now.
The carb that caught fire was an older 650 cfm holley. It was replaced by an edelbrock 650cfm with an electronic choke (something the holley did not have.)
The condition of the car now:
replaced the carb, most of the wiring in the engine compartment, the fuel pump, the breather, plug wires, distrib cap, ignition coils, starter, alternator, battery and the hood.
Speedo cable is needing to be replaced.
Alot of those things were replaced under warranty as they failed a few weeks after I finally got the car back (which wasn't until into March!)
Entire car had to be repainted as the rather unique paint job was impossible for anyone to match. I settled for a lower quality paint job due to funds since it was better than having a metallic blue car with a primer black hood. Aside from that, the color actually looks better, only issue was a few prep items, and the place ( a local place but a cheaper local place) guaranteed any and all chipping et cetera for like 4 years - still feel ike a jackass for getting a low budget paint job on my baby but still better than multi colored car.. It'll do until I am in a better position to get a really good paint job. Aside from that, my focus for now is some mechanical upgrades (like 4 wheel disc brakes.) Only really annoying prep problem is they managed to get some paint on a couple of things I would rather they had not gotten it on (idiots!)
Thought everyone might like to know.
