Car is for Sale...am I making the right choice?

My dad's best friend from high school called the other day and told my dad that he is selling is '01 Bullitt with 14k miles on it. He is the original owner, and it has been garage kept and well maintained since he bought it new. He just got divorced and really just wants to sell it. He said he would give my dad a really good deal on the car for me, but I obviously have to sell my car. I'm not sure how much he is selling it for, but my dad told me I needed to sell my car for at least $5,000 to make the purchase possible. I'm not sure if my dad actually knows the price or not, I think he might be playing some sort of trick on me because its my birthday on Thursday, but regardless the car would need to be sold.

Am I making the right choice?! I have always loved Bullitts and I think anything under $10k for this car would be an amazing deal and probably something I shouldn't pass up.

The car is for sale on Corral and on SVT Performance, so if anyone is interested, or knows anyone, please let me know.

The choice is, of course, ultimately up to you. You would be leaving the 94-95 crowd, but you would of course be welcome in these forums anytime. Would you miss your 95 GT? Definitely. I can't give you fair advice because I don't have the same appreciation for the Bullitt that you do (tho I love the movie). I will own other cars in the future but I will always own a 94-95.

What may cause you problems is selling your current car. The economy is in the tank so no one is buying right now. I wish you luck.

To be totally honest, there is nothing special at all to me to make me even consider stepping away from a car as nice as yours. Put it this way, I see a Bullitt driving down the road, I could care less. Honestly. I see your car going down the road and I would be like thats fricken sweet. A nice 94-95 has so much respect and uniqueness. Not to mention your car means alot to you because its unique TO YOU. Some car done up from the factory is just like everyone elses car on the road, not unique. Idk, just would not entice me.

While I do agree with you, I think I'm at the point in my life where I need a car I'm not going to have to worry about breaking. My car has 123k on it and has been giving me little problems left and right. As much as it is going to kill me to sell it, I think getting into another Mustang after will help ease the pain. If I could have both, I would in a second, but the reality is I can only afford one car, and I only have room for one car in the driveway. I think the fact that this car has such extremely low mileage makes the deal that much sweeter.

Honestly, I wouldn't go for it. I've always liked your car, even more so after the redfire paintjob, but you have to think about the fact that your car's been through two accidents, so anyone buying it would ultimately take that into consideration when buying it. For me, I know it was fixed correctly and I'd personally have no problem with it, but others may not have the same mindset, and will hit you on the price. You also have to think about the fact that the current car is paid for, so even if you had to replace basically every moving part, you'd still likely end up with less into it than you'd have to put up, to buy the Bullitt. I put myself in a similar situation with my DD and somewhat regret it. I was just tired of spending the time working on the car and fixing little things, so I traded it up. Now I'm in the hole for a lot more than five grand, but it's the same principle. Ultimately, it's up to you. I'd take a Bullitt in a heartbeat, but I don't know if I'd sacrifice the car I've become attached to, in order to do it.

Do it. Get the more reliable car now and then once you graduate from school and start making money, buy yourself a project car. Or maybe you'll be happy to just have the Bullit

I'd keep the current car. I don't think you'd get $5000 out of it after the accidents it's been in.

Well it doesn't seem like you needed to make this thread then. You seem confident in justifying it so theres your answer.

I do agree with 95stang with the fact that for one I think you are gonna get screwed on what you get out of your car. It's gonna be a slap in the face to see all your work get thrown away for a bad price. The other thing is for as much more as that Bullitt is gonna cost who cares if you have to spend 50 bucks here or even 200 bucks there on your car. That Bullitt is thousands more. Not to mention your car is just a bolt on car with 123K (not much at all) I guess I don't understand what could possibly be that bad thats going wrong with it aside from routine expected things.

I'm in the same boat as you. I have a 150xxx mile 5.0 that is nickeling me to death, but I'd never trade it for that bullitt. Plus I'm in college, so I understand the need for a reliable car, but as much as I love the bullitt, I wouldn't be me without this car. And those aren't as easy to work on when something does go wrong...it's up to you, but I don't see the advantage of it

I found your ad on the corral and it just hit me who you are/which car is yours. DON'T SELL THAT FOR A BULLITT!! That thing is gorgeous There's no way a bullitt could compare to that.
BTW, that 5th pic, I know exactly where that is on Riverstreet. I go to Georgia Southern in Statesboro. Next time I go to Savannah, I'll hit ya up. I'd love to see your car (either one lol)

P.S. you wouldn't wanna trade those Cobra rims for a set of FR500s would you?

I made the mistake of selling my first car (a 68GT Fastback, basically what Bullitt was before the movie guys got to it). I've regretted it ever since, even though at the time I thought I was moving up...

I got my 95 10 years ago when I was graduating high school, my dad wanted me to have a reliable car and wouldn't front the money for me to buy a 70 Torino Cobra Jet 429. I'm happier now that I have the 95, but I was heartbroken back then

unless you plan to play with the bullet too i would sell the GT. if you plan to keep the bullet stock, keep your car.

Sounds like a plan dude, hit me up when you are coming to Savannah. I would possibly like to trade wheels. What kinda tires and what size are the wheels. Tread life?

As for people who asked if I plan to mod it...I don't belong to stangnet to leave my car stock hahaha. But seriously, I plan to do pretty basic mods at first, then go big after I graduate. Here's what I wanna do:

Deep Dish Bullitts out back with 315's
lower it 2"
CC plates
x-pipe
Magnaflow catback (possibly magnapacks)
shifter
grill delete
chin spoiler
tint

Then down the road I would like to supercharge it, but who knows. This car has 14k miles on it, it is essentially new. The thing is, if I keep my car, then when I graduate and have money to build it up, there is a lot more work involved to get it where I would want it. If I get the Bullitt, not only will I have a pretty much brand new car, but I get to start over, and do everything over again, and change some things I would have like to have changed on the 95.

Trust me, I love my car to death. And if it were a little newer, and had a little bit lower mileage, I would think twice about selling it. My drive to and from school 3 time a year is 1000 miles each way which is a lot for a car with 123k on it.

Sounds like you have your own answer.

My advice would be hang onto your car, but you gotta do what you think is best.

Looks like about $3500 worth of upgrades you're planning. What kind of reliability would that buy for your 95?

Always been a bigger fan of the 94-98 body style. I vote keep the car! Now if we were voting on say a mach 1...I might have a tougher time
