Car nearly exploded...why?

So after a couple passes at the local 8th mile I was driving home when I downshifted to pass a car at 45mph. I got on it, and after a moment, my tach shot instantly up to 7000+RPM, motor screaming bloody murder. I shut the car off and coasted to a stop, and even with the car off the tach still stuck at over 7 grand. When I manually open the throttle body (which is brand new btw) something bounces on the throttle cable.

When I started the car back up, it started normally and after a second or two the tach returned to normal and I drove it home without incident. What the hell happened??

Sounds like your floor mat got stuck under the accelerator pedal. It's never happened to me, but it's happened to a lot of people.

Also be sure the throttleblade isnt getting stuck.

or your throttle cable isn't binding or sticking

lol it definitely wasn't the floormat, and I'll check those other two things now that it's not 2am in the middle of nowhere.

Last year my floormat got stuck with pedal all the way down at a stop sign i went accross the other lane of traffic and parked it on the oposite side of the rode it was pretty wild, lets just say theres only 3 floor mats in my car now

Yeah check that cable and blade. Ive had the cable get stuck before just not at Wide open.
