Well folks, my 99 Anniversary Convertible stang is heading to Cody Mac Motorsports in Ct for some work. They will be installing the following:

1) SHM Stg 1 ported and polished heads
2) SHM Hot Street/Strip cam
3) 6 point custom chromally roll cage w/ swing-outs
4) Team Breed valve covers, custom engraved

and all the parts required for the install. This is going to be a great year at the track, but not so great for the wallet. Once I get the before and after numbers I'll update everyone. I'll also let you know how Cody Mac does on the install.

Talk to you all soon and wish me luck.

Mike

All the parts cost a little over $3000 and the install and tune will be around $2000. The cage has to be entirely custom because I can't just buy one off the shelf for my vert. That will be around $2200, but it will be set to my car and they will fit the swing outs to my body. Should be pretty sweet.

I'll keep you posted.

Mike

Holycrap, that's awesome, what kinda cost are you lookin at and what performance gains do you expect??

I wanted to update everyone on the progress. I dropped off the car and let me say the shop is huge, and awesome. They have several 2003 cobras, a 2000 Cobra R, and several pro-street cars. These guys are going to be working with East Side Performance to get the car really humming. East Side primarily works on F-bodies but do excellent work on everything they touch and I expect nothing less on my car.

From what I have heard the motor has been pulled, the cage has been measured and is being bent, and I'll have to head down there to have the swing-outs fit to my size. I'll post some pictures when I have some to post.

Sound's totally awesome. First time I ever heard of swing out bars custom made to fit you. Keep us posted and definetly post pics when its complete. ANy idea when that might be?

I'll post everything when it's done, pics, dyno curves, etc, etc.

The cage is going to be really nice. It's chromally so it will be lighter, it will be painted gloss black, and the reason for the custom bar is that I'm 6'4 and have an interesting time fitting into the car as it is, so they are working with me. Plus the cage is a little price ($2000) but it will be well worth it (I hope)

They were looking to have in ready in three weeks, that was one week ago today. It looks like it might be done a little early, but if they quoted three weeks I am not going to rush them. I want it done right.

If anyone wants the contact information for Cody Mac just PM me and I'll send it your way.

Mike dont worry we will take great care of your baby
the car is progressing nicely
we cant wait to see what kind of power this set up puts down after Kevin gets a chance to tune it
we will keep ya posted

thanks Rob

Thanks Rob, I knew you would take care of my baby. If I didn't have the confortable feeling I would have found another shop to do the work.

I am anxious to see what that setup will produce. SHM tells me 25-50 hp just from the heads. We'll see how it turns out. Talk to you soon;

Mike

Everything was a little pricey, but I am eventually going to do the bottom end of the motor and have a sweet running N/A car.

Jackie Chan, I am surprised that you haven't had to install one yet with the times you are running. What track are you running at and are they IHRA/NHRA sanctioned?? I know that 13.49 (IHRA) or faster in a vert requires a 5-point minimum roll cage. NHRA rules state 13.99 or faster.

my track is a bit lax on such things. personally I think that the rules on verts with bars should be 12.99 or quicker or 110+ mph. Considering T/A verts, vette verts, and stang verts can all go 13.99 and under right out of the box

Ouch, I guess I deserve that after some of the smart foot in mouth comments I made to you the other week. I'll let you know how I do.
hey i didnt read this....i wasnt offended by what you said at all, dont worry about that. Im just pissed that your car is going to be fast as hell....my verts just going to be a memory to the other vert drag racing boys

My track has a tendency to be strict on some things and lax on others.

From what I've been hearing in the drag racing world, t-tops are going to be part of a different class then hard tops. I've heard two things might happen:
1) cars with T-tops will be entered into the convertible class and have to follow the same time restrictions.
2) Creating a class in-between hard tops and verts for when cages and other safety equipment is required.

I have some friends with F-body T-tops that are thinking #2 will be applied. We'll see what happens. I think that the rules are a little strict on verts, but not much choice.

Well, talked to the shop again. There were a few things that I forgot to get them:
Header gaskets, upper intake gaskets
The shop picked them up and put the motor back in. I guess that they fired it up and it's running well. It should be tuned some time soon and I really hope that Cody Mac has the time to put the cage in next week. I really am looking forward opening day, assuming this snow melts.

They are having a dyno day at East Side Performance one week from Saturday (3/27) where I should be able to pick up the stang. I'll let everyone know what I end up with for numbers and see if I can figure out how to post the graph here.

More updates to come.

Well folks, The car is tuned up and I have the final numbers. I ended up with 314.3 Hp and 310.3 torque to the wheels. I was excited about the Hp, but a little confused about the torque. I was figuring on a whole lot more then 13 torque gain. I guess it has to do with the setup.
