Car PULLS after brake job.

90 GT 5 speed. I did a brake job last week(pads and rotors). Did the driver side first, and then the pass. And now the car pulls to the driver side.(was not pulling before) If I jack the car up the pass side wheel/tire turns about 2 or 3 revolutions, the driver turns maybe 1 revolution.

Rotor nut to tight? or bad caliper? Or WTF?

Did you overtorque the nut for the wheel bearings? The spec on it is in inch-lbs.

Otherwise, be sure the caliper is sliding ok (if you push it inboard or outboard) and make sure the tires have even amounts of pressure.

Ya the torque is right. If i take the tire off i should be able to slide the caliper inboad or outboard? How much? And if it does not move?

It's not the amount you can slide it, it's that you can slide it at all. It should just move back and forth with 1-2 fingers pushing/pulling on it.

If that looks good, I'd pull the caliper off both sides and spin the rotors to see if they both spin equally. That will tell you if it's related to the brakes or not.

If caliper isn't bound, suggest swap rotors side to side & see if it still pulls the same direction. You can also try changing pads side x side too. If changes, suggest replace rotor accordingly.

If it still pulls the same direction, I would recommend replacing the front rubber brake lines & bleeding. Especially if the lines are 80k+ miles old & brake fluid has not been exchanged periodically. could be the caliper, but i would be looking for sticking slide pins first & besides, soft lines and brake fluid is cheap compared to new caliper(s).

what did you torque the nut too? I never torque them. I always tighten them with a medium sized pair of channel locks, chances are if you use a 1 1/16" wrench or whatever size it is, you can overtighten them pretty easy. The channel locks keep you from getting a hole lot of grip on them to overtorque.

I assume u cleaned, inspected & repacked the bearings>?? I would pull off the dust cap & back the nut off a bit & see.

maybe one of the calipers are sticking.

one steel and one phenolic?Bad rebuild?I would take them both back and try New calipers or Good steel rebuilds from Napa perhaps after ruling out simple things.....
