I got a problem with my mustang overheating. It's a 88 GT with a DSS 306 motor swap and a built TSI automatic trans. Its got trick flow aluminum heads, trick flow intake, msd ignition, timing set at 12, ford racing radiator, weiland waterpump, 160 thermostat, March underdrive pulleys. At slow speeds, traffic, and ideling, it gets between 210 and 250 degrees. It has a brand new thermostat, the system pressurized, and stock clutch fan. When it overheats, the upper hose gets hard. Also, i used to have a flexalite electric fan in it, but it barely helped. Does anyone have any suggestions on what is wrong, or what I can do to fix it. thank you very much in advance and sorry for the long post.

if it's only at slow speed or ideling sounds like the fan. i've used some of the generic or run of the mill electric fans on cars before and they don't always cut it. you'll probably need a big ol electric or a dual fan from hell set up. you'll need better alternator for that though. is that a 2 core radiator from ford racing??
do a search for electric fans, for single people use the black majic fans or a lincoln mark 8 fan, for the dual there's a set up they refer to as ramchargers fans..........also, while it's most likely the fan your u d pulleys may not be helping..

It is your fan most likely. I have a 393 stroker with a 3,500 RPM stall speed converter. I drive it on the streets with no over heating at all. I have "2" B&M 24,000 GVW trans coolers in front of the radiator to keep the trans from over heating, and with all that heat and the heat from the enine, it has never gone past the N in Normal evem in stop and ho traffic. The stock fans are just able to keep up with a stock engine, and the Black Majic fan even say for below 250 HP use. Get a Mark VIII or a Ramcharger fan, and forget your cooling problems. I payed $30 for my Mark VIII at a junk yard.

The Mark VIII has 4,500 CFM of air flow. Heck, I think it may even cool it with out water as air cooled
