hello all...

i have a 94 gt tons of miles. 270k.
was all stock till about 4 months ago. Found a few parts in a bone yard, picked them up and installed them. flows, cold air intake. and msd coil pack. then I bought an x pipe from a guy on the local mustang site.

Even before those mods the car would run at mid point. then under acceleration or traffic it rise a little then go back down after I get going or get some air flowing in it. fans is kicking on when temp get up there.

I changed the old plugs(gapped at 60) a couple of months ago and all of the sudden it ran at the right temp.((new gap 52) but then it went back up again.

Since it has so many miles I figured i do some basic maintenance to see if I stumble across the problem. so I installed.....NEW timing chain, water pump, temp sensor, upper radiator hose(they didn't have lower), acc. belt. and radiator cap. I also spend about 30 minutes trying to burp the system. I think i have it all out.

Going try a OEM thermostat from ford next weekend, replace other hoses. I haven't gone into radiator yet because $$$ and when I took the water pump and hoses the they were extremely clean inside.

any other things I should try?

Oh ! Right now I have the heater core line looped because the it was leaking in the car.

The heater core line shouldn't effect it. Did you look in the radiator when you had the coolant out? It sounds like a flow problem, which would most likely be a radiator. 270K is a lot of miles.

Check for debris in the radiator cooling fins. Bugs, paper that sort of stuff. These things can seriously affect cooling capability.

I'm not ruling out the radiator as a possibility but everything was really clean coming out. This weekend, I'll probably take it out flush it and spray water through the fins to see what happens. Replacing the radiator is the last thing I wanted try. Mainly because of the $$$. I dont mind spending the $ on the other stuff because I do have a lot of miles on the car, so I wanted to replace these things regarless of good or bad anyway.

quick question. should the #1 piston at TDC the rotor should be pointing to the #1 plug on the cap or the #1 piston. mine is #1 on the cap.

That is correct.

Check your radiator. I brought mine to a shop and they pressure checked the system and found a leak in the radiator. I installed a summit radiator and have had no more issues.

Is your lower radiator hose soft?
If it is soft, and doesn't have a spring inside, it will suck shut and deprive the engine of cool water.
It isn't constant though, it would be intermittent and would be more prone to do so as the rpms rise.

I might look for an upgrade for the radiator instead of just a autozone replacement. I have a few more things I'd like to try before i do that. If all goes well i'll have time for a little more maintenance again this weekend.
OEM T-stat, few more hoses...

I'll probably just pick up a radiator this weekend. I didn't realize they were not that expensive. I was thinking way over 200 bucks.

Going to call the autozone thermostat crap as well. put in a FORD Tstat. and the guage is now running on the N of normal. I had to go across town last night(30 mileseach way) doing about 70-80, Temps stayed cool.
