I built a 2.3T 87 mustang about 2 years ago, been running fantastic, but has an intermittant hiccup. While replacing rear shocks, I decided to try to pull codes on it. My handheld scanner wouldn't communicate for some reason, so I used the jumper wire method. For some odd reason, w/ the key off, when I attached the jumper it sparked slightly. I thought it normal and proceeded to attempt to pull codes to no avail. W/ the jumper in place, I put a test light in the correct hole, it stayed lit the entire time. I thought no biggie, use the CEL on the dash, it too was lit the entire time. Upon trying to restart the car, it smelled horribly flooded, further investigation found the TPS to be @ .ooo2 at rest, and musters a .0068 on full sweep. Tried another TPS, w/ the same reading.
Did some research, found a post about cooking the computer if hooked up incorrectly while doing the self test. Had an extra LA3 laying around, changed the cpu w/ no change in problems. Checked ohm from ground wire on tps to self test connector, then to batt ground, all reads less than .500 ohm.....
Is there a shorter version to repair this that I'm missing?
car will start, but it takes forever of cranking, and when it does fire, it hunts for idle for about 20 seconds before I can let off the gas. I've put a fuel pressure guage on the rail, all is normal, not losing fire at the plugs when it dies intermittantly also.......I'm stuck. Any help would be appreciated.
What make it worse, we just sold my wife's 05 escape Daily driver yesterday as she'd be driving the stang so much lately. Way to fix it huh? lol.
Thanks guys.
