I just got Comp cams installed (102200 - stage II) and springs. I reset my computer and fired up my car. When I rev my engine the rpms will bounce up and down for about 3 times then even out. Well, sometimes the car will actually stall on me. Is this normal? I've done this until the car warms up on two separate occasions (both with the AC on and off). BTW: I'm not driving it until I get a tune.

Could it be the fuel pump? The guy who installed it said it's starting to die.
Could it be that the car's never been tuned before?

Anyone else had this problem??? The car idled fine until the cams.

After I installed those in my car, it wanted to die coming up to a stoplight. I got a tune and it hasn't died since. In other words, you need a tune. How do you like them.

You NEEED a tune!!!

It'll stall and die until you get it tuned.. you should get it tuned regardless of it's doing that or not

Thanks for the input. I'm not driving it at all until I get my Xcal. Then, I'm taking it to get dynotuned. Hell, it probably needed a tune before the cams. I didn't know if the tune would fix it, but apparently so...probably WAYY to lean.

I absolutely love the sound. I used to have the "PI" cams, but it sounds MUCH better with the comp cams.

I have the "stage 2" AKA:XE270's and had the exact same problem, even with generic tune in my Diablosport Predator. I ended up rasing up the idle to 950 to keep it from dropping too fast and stalling. Once I changed to the WMS Velocity intake(includes 95mm MAF) and PP throttle body and plenum it mellowed out and now idles at 750 no prob.

No emission testing in Sask. The only thing that might happen is that the car has to pass a road-side check and those are seldom done. The road-side check may consist of a noise level test and a visual check to see mufflers and cats are present when cars are equipped with them.

with those cams i would recommend a street tune vs dyno. the engine load changes on the street vs not at all on a dyno. I kow ill get flamed for that but so be it.

Your idle problem is Definately related to the cams... Anytime you have a high duration cam shaft you are going to have problems at idle. I believe this is because of "valve overlap". At any rate even with a tune I would imagine you will have to raise your idle rpm some... My Dad's old 55 chevy had such a radical cam (.510 lift 320 duration) in it that it wouldnt idle below 1300 rpms. The other thing you can check for is a vacuum leak, but I am 99 percent certain that its the cams alone.
