Hey guys my 1989 Mustang started its life out as a LX which i heard were the lightest of the cars (GT/LX). Currently it has the Saleen Kit on it, Stock 302 motor, the rear seat has been deleted, the engine bay has been cleaned up, battery in trunk, no spare tire, arm rest is gone, has a 8 point roll cage, electric fans, all padding under the carpets have been removed, procharger P600 with intercooler, Aluminium radiator and a Fiberglass hood. Thats about all the deletes and add ons.

From that can i get a weight figure from you guys who have actually weighed your cars with similar deletes. Just realy need a weight aproximation.
Thanks.

It seems for every delete, you've got an addition..so my estimate is you're right around where a stock LX is(~3100-3300).

Well, you haven't deleted much, like said before, probally about stock weight due to add ons.

SO many places to lose some real weight. Anything that is not nessasary for the function of the vehicle is just excess dead weight. The more you delete the lighter it gets, but the less car you have.

Thought I would chime in again. There are several types of weight and how you reduce weight is so important. #1 enemy to performance is rotational weight, because not only is it added weight, but it's weight that the engine has to spin over and over. Basically 3 times as bad as other types of weight. That's why people spend big money in light weight pullies, flywheels, driveshafts, engine internals, ect. #2 for a Fox I would have to say would start in the front and move on back. Nose weight is extremely negative for getting your car out of the hole. Not only does it make your weight distribution bad but makes it harder to transfer weight to the back. That is why deleting A/C, P/S, and the smog pump prove benificial because you are reducing not only nose wight but also rotational weight. #3 but along with this is unsprung weight. That's weight after the springs, this effects suspension performance. That's why so many go for superlight wheels and brakes even though it cost a fortune, because they are reducing both rotational and unsprung weight, as well as some nose weight.

On my car I have some big plans comming up real soon. I just got the car past the smog test today so I am free to have at it. I am deleting the A/C, P/S, and the A/P along with the rest of the thermactor system. I already replaced the clutch fan with an electric unit. I could feel that difference right there. After that the nose comes off and the condenser, P/S cooler, front bumper support and fog light support are all comming out. (This car is not my Daily Driver BTW, actually I hardly drive it.) The battery is going in the back. The front swaybar has already been removed. I also have some aluminum U/D pullies to go in there along with a 3G alternator. There should be a noticable difference but with very little money spent.

The Deletes: A/C and its Entire Is gone, The Battery is in the Trunk, The Metal Hood is Now Fiberglass, The Sway Bar is Gone, The Arm Rest is Gone, The Back Seat is Gone, No Spare Tire or Jack Etc, No Clutch Fans (Electric), Aluminum Radiator, all The Interior Pading and thats About It.

The add Ons: The P600 Procharger and all Brackets, Pullies & Intercooler, The 8 Point Roll Cage.

I Dont think that the Addons will add up to the deletes

I Just Thought some guys may have done these deletes and Add ons and weighed their car, was just trying to get an estimated weight of the car.

I tend to disagree, i'll bet you are about 50-100 lbs lighter than stock. Is the rollbar moly or steel?

Thats without the internet calculator of course. If you really wanna know what the car weighs, then WEIGH IT lol, any local junkyard will let you throw it on the scales if they arent busy at the moment.

Every car is a little different, there are people claiming that thier cars weigh between 2600-2800 lbs with similar weight reduction to my car, but when i scaled myne it weighed 2960, and when i put the rollbar in it weighed 2980, but myne is chromoly, mild steel is heavier

Your bar only added 20 lbs? Is that typical? I always figured they weighed more than that.

yep, its only an 8pt, not a full cage, i also remove about 5-10 pounds max of that plastic sound deadener from the floorboards, so it weighs between 20-30lbs. Also the MM subframes were removed and i had through the floor ones put in up to the seatpan. Those MM subframes were pretty heavy, and chromoly is relativly light

Oh well it's not worth the arguement. You have more than you originally listed. Take it to the scales.
