i have an 87 gt with mass air and recently it began to stall sometimes at stoplights, it had been running great. Now it wont even stay running unless i stay on the gas and keep it at like 2000 rpm, then as soon as i let off the gas it shuts off, i already tried a diiferent mass air meter and that didn't work now i guess i'm going to try a new IAC maybe? Anyone have any ideas? thanks!

just take the IAC off and clean it out with carb cleaner...no need to replace it, yet.

Also check for vaccuum leaks that will have the same effect. When I installed my new motor I had a vac leak and it wouldnt start or run unless I gave it some gas and it ended up being a vac line that I didn't hook up.

i checked most of the lines as best i could, maybe i didnt check good enough? Thats why i was thinkin it could be a sensor or something. Would you have to change the tps voltage when you install a new throttle body, i just installed a 65 mm throttle body but i didnt mess with the tps. Someone said maybe just reset the base idle?

If you haven't messed with your idle stop-screw, don't go messing with it now, you're just going to whack it out along with your TPS voltage which will cause more problems.

As Beasly said, sounds like a vacuum leak to me. If it's that bad, you can usually hear it hissing....have a buddy get to the gas pedal and get the rpms as low as possible where it can stay running, and peek your head around and listen for hissing. Also if you have a can of TB cleaner, Brake-clean, etc....spray a little here and there, a light mist....if there's a leak, it'll suck the cleaner in and combust it, which will make your idle jump up or the car will stutter. Also check your timing, maybe your distributor loosened up and spun and your ignition timing is retarded.

FWIW, you should see about 20" hg of manifold vac (assuming you're still running a SD friendly set-up).

I'd also pull codes - unless you rewired the CEL circuit, your CEL does not function.

Good luck.
