So I'm about to upgrade my intake and carb on a stock 289 4V but have a few questions that are kinda nagging at me.

I'm upgrading to a weiand stealth intake and a Holley SA 570 W/electric choke.

My question is about the tranny kickdown lever/linkage stuff on the carb. The '66 289 has the kick down cable attached kinda at the bottom of the pedal assembly near the trans. and has a throttle rod not a cable.
Are there any other parts I need to get related to the kickdown lever/ linkage on the carb to complete the install? The instructions mention this part Holley 20-91 - Holley Transmission Kickdown Lever Extensions

Is it needed or not? It says it's to extend the lower OEM kickdown lever but mines the cable style.

I'm guess the kick down lever on the carb is related to fuel delivery under heavy accelleration or am I totally missing it?

One other question. Maybe a silly one. :D The stealth intake is listed as having a rear water crossover. I take it thats for the temp sender unit or am I wrong again.

Would appreciate any help.
Cheers :nice:

Rod?

No.

No. The stock 66 kickdown has nothing to do with the carb, and need not be altered.

The kickdown drops your car out of D into 2 (and so on) when you nail it. Without it, the car will be a dog.

I suppose you could put one back there, but no. Leave the sender on the front.

The 6 cylinder kickdown linkage at the top was used on all Mustangs 66-68:

The kickdown lever on the 570 is for later applications that used a rod (bent tube actually) that went directly from the carb to the transmission, just ignore it, the one on your pedal assembly will work as is. All either does is bump the transmission down a gear when you nail the pedal. The rear crossover port should only be used for a heater hose connection. The temp sender needs to be at the front of the intake where the coolant is at it's maximum temperature after circulating thru the whole engine.
