i checked the plugs on it jut for the hell of it and it looks like there are small white dots comeing out on the electrode i think that means its running lean. im running one step colder plugs, autolite. allso the metal portion which curves up above the plug is turning white.... if it is running lean how do i adjust it. thanks

Small white dots could indicate detonation, as for being lean, what was the engine doing right before you checked the plugs? there are different adjustments for idling, highway cruising, full throttle etc..

To adjust the mixture, you have to open the carb and install larger jets. You can get a whole box of jets for $30 or so from jegs. You would want to go up one or two at the most. It is common for carbed cars to go lean in the winter with cool dry air.

The idle mixture screw is just that. It adjusts the amount of fuel for a good idle and nothing beyond that. The idle circuit will not affect the car at part or WOT.
