Just finished my vic jr install on my 351w. When i went to fire it up it wouldn't idle unless you keep bumping the gas. When i do this the accelerator pumps give a little gas and the car stay's running. If you stop doing that even with the idle screw turned in a long ways the car dies. I removed the 2 bolts in the side of the carb to look into the float bowls. With the electric pump on no gas would come out them. I thought that was kinda strange. I tapped on the float bowl on the rear then gas started coming out. no luck with the front bowl. I unscrewed the power valve bolt a little in the front and got gas right away. Can someone please tell me what is going on? Is the float stuck? before i took my engine apart the engine was idling good. It had sat all winter but car was idling at 700rpm after it got warm. what do i have to do to get the car to idle so i can set the timing?

check for a vacuum leak maybe at the carb. The manifold might have a open vacuum port. The fuel check screws on a holley are set with the engine running and the fuel level at the bottom of hole but not running out. If its not running the crank it a few times and open the screw and it should be close but not over.
Pumping the throttle to keep it running is a indication of a vacuum leak or clog ,dirt, in idle system, check the easy things first, get a can of carb cleaner to spray in air ports.

You are right sir and thx for your help. I'm an idiot i realized after reading this i forgot to hook the vacuum line from my intake to my power brakes. Still was doing the same thing. Then i realized maybe it is the fact that i don't have pcv hooked into port on carb. Guess what after i fixed those 2 things the car idled right away and i was able to set timing o 18 degrees initial and all is well. I forgot how much heat this engine give off. man it runs hot. Now i have to readjust the rockers and i'm good to go.
