Carpet jute backing

I'm going to go with a new mass back carpet and was wondering do I need to keep the jute backing off the old carpet to transfer to the new?

Just put a mass back ACC carpet in my 86 it came with the jute backing attached. Not quite as much as the original but seemed to be enough. Fit pretty good.
