Casting #s that dont match...rebuilt?

Okay so this may seem like a stupid question, but should ALL the casting #s on every part of my engine match?

For example, I just bought a 351W to work on. The block says D4AE, which to my research is a 1974 Galaxie.

But the rods say D6OE, which is a 1976 Fairlane.

So has this been disassembled/rebuilt before?? Or is it possible for D6OE rods come in a D4AE block from the factory??

The casting number details when the part was RELEASED FOR SERVICE.

This engine was "supposed" to have been pulled from an 86 Crown Vic. Any idea if an 86 Vic would have still used the D4AE 351W casting?? Or would there be other numbers on the block to check and verify whether it was the original engine?
