Catted X/H Pipe for NY Emissions test?

Hi everyone. I just moved to NY fron CA a few months ago and will have to get my car smoged in about 5 months. Right now I have a Mac Pro-Chamber mid pipe on the car and I know I wont pass the test with this set up. I was wondering if instead of going back to the stock mid pipe I can use an aftermarket catted pipe (maybe a Bassani or Dr Gas, something that will still give me a little performance boost and a better sound than stock) In CA it was stock or you fail, that simple; but Im wondering what your experiences have been in NY. I live in Rockland county if that helps (Nyack)

Well, I'm not sure where rockland county is, but if your car is less then 2 years old, you don't have to worry about emision testing(not sure about down state). Around here, most shops don't even look to see if the emission equipment is still hooked up.

I know I will fail without cats, that is why I am asking if a a catted x/h pipe will do the trick(But not the factory pipe). I CA you will fail even if you have an aftermarket pipe with cats. In CA you must have the OEM pipe on the car. I was just wondering if an aftermarket pipe with cats is good enough in NY. As far as where Rockland County is, its just north of the NY/NJ border. Nyack is just across the Tapan Zee Bridge on the west side of the Hudson.

Yeah, my car is black. You probably saw me. I work in Nanuet so my commute is basically up and down 59. Do you have chrome bullits on your stang? I saw a silver stang with chrome bullits at the Palisades center, I also saw one with charcoal or anthricite Bullits. I will definately get in touch with you about going to one of those meets.

thank god putnam county does not need to test emissions. I hear they will be early next year though.. If you are so worried about passing inspection contact me and I will set you up with a guy about 30 minutes away from Rockland that will pass you(you just gotta let hiim drive it) :)

With the new emissions tests around the corner. You will need a car that does not have codes stored in computer.

What they will be doing is plugging into dianostic port. Just as if you were reflashing the computer. This will check all emission systems. No more tail pipe testing for 99 and greater cars. Mil elimantors will fail car, and any touble codes. Also turning off the sensors via chip or re-flash will fail car.

I believe Putnam county will have this installed by end of this year.

Here in westchester, it will be up and running by June 2005.

We will have to wait and see how sofisficated the software is.....
