CDC Shaker and Mach 1 Hood

cant be done, I have the CDC kit and the only thing I will ever regret is not being able to take advantage of some aftermarket Mach parts, check sig for any pics if youre just interested int the shaker, if you allready have it welcome to the no more mod club.
I've petitioned CDC to make an aftermarket hood, they said no, I'm sure if enough people asked theyd make one.

Get the Karkraft kit. They use the same shaker but a different kit to allow you to use the Mach 1 hood.
:nice:

Yep. :nice:

While CDC has folded into their design the improvements that Ford came up with for the Mach (like with the flex joint in the air tube), KarKraft is all genuine Ford parts except for the mounting plate/brackets. And, actually, the KarKraft custom mounting plate/brackets is the key to getting the shaker scoop centered on the 4.6 2v engine in the exact same place that the shaker scoop is centered on the Mach 1 4.6 4v engine. That is what allows the KarKraft kit to use the Mach hood.

That is good information

It looks worth it, I have had the Shaker for 2 years I guess, Maybe I can get $400 for the whole thing in Orlando on ebay. Hood and CDC kit. It seems that if you built some custom Brackets you could move the shaker back and higher to fit the new hood. And also the air intake to the filter.

check my sig I have a side by side comparison of the Mach setup and CDCs. I went with CDC (honestly after paint on both products CDC is a bit cheaper) because it has the 69 mach 1 scoop whereas the Karkraft/mach 1 has a new designed (yes similar, but not the same) scoop.

The CDC shaker is much smaller than the Mach 1 hood opening. You would have to rig something to fill the space, wich would most likely lead to water leakeage.

Both kits are a crappy value if you want more ponies, but for style I thought the CDC kit looks a ton better. If youre doing the "hump" part a different color the CDC kit is easier and IMO looks a ton better. If youre going with the hood all the same color you're probly better off with the KarKraft kit. Also since the KarKraft kit is the same as the Mach 1, you can get any aftermarket parts for the Mach1 where I have to be careful or fab it.

I got an OEM mach 1 hood/shaker from a guy on mach 1 registry who was putting in an 03 cobra motor. I had to make a couple of brackets but it turned out pretty well I think. It ended up costing me $1000 after painting the hood and getting some misc hardware.

As far as future mods go, I plan to put a supercharger on there soon and will go with the throttle body and port the plenum myself. I will be cutting the tube off the shaker and having it blow cool air on the supercharger when I'm on the highway. I'll drop a box filter into the shaker to keep bugs and stuff off of the blower.

Are you sure that the scoop itself is smaller on the CDC kit? I thought both the CDC scoop, and the Mach 1 scoop, were based off the same '69 scoop cast aluminum "mold". True, the Mach 1 scoop has that rather wide rubber skirt around its base to help seal the hood opening from the weather, but that is really separate, in my mind, from the scoop itself. Once hood is closed, you really only see the scoop itself on either setup.

Now, the Mach 1 hood might need that rubber skirt to work right. So, simply moving the CDC scoop's location to have it line up with the hole in the Mach 1 hood, might not really do it.

Sorry for my general ignorance towards this but, what mods are there for Mach 1's that we could use if we had the Mach 1 hood scoop? Or did I misunderstand some of the posts here?

Adding the shaker to the GT is the mod. The engine isn't changing so for the most part, adding the shaker doesn't change the need to still stick with GT (4.6l 2v) engine mods.

The only exceptions I can think of, are that with the shaker on a GT, you would now need to use a Mach 1 strut tower brace, and a Mach 1 K&N filter/air box.

You just can't use the same piping from the filter to the throttle body as is used on a mach 1 because the throttle body is different. The shaker really doesn't add any power so it wouldn't hurt to just take off the shaker plumbing and you can do all of the typical 4.6L 2V mods. That's about what I'll be doing when I put on the blower.

Good catch! I had not ever thought of that. :bang:

I guess if one really wanted a K&N, and still use the shaker as a cold air source, one would need to get the K&N Mach 1 kit for its air box replacement, and the K&N GT kit for its "piping".

did you look at the pics? I'd guestimate the opening in the Ford/Karkraft kit is almost 5 inches wider than the CDC kit.
CDC designed the original shaker, then ford tinkered with it and changed it. Thus the differences. CDC made it first, Ford made it "better" (this I am not so sure about) and then CDC modified its original as far as the shaker applique (so any rumors or truths about the applique coming off are no longer true, mine broke and they sent me a new one for free).

As far as mods, engine wise you do GT mods still, but stuff like stur braces etc you have to get Mach parts to clear the shaker. CDC has a kit that accepts 2 brands of SuperChargers for a bit extra.

One of the post-Ford mods that CDC did, was to add the flex joint in the air tube. I see from your pic, you have that. The original CDC kit had a straight, non-flexing, air tube. BTW, the Mach 1 has a flex joint in its air tube too.
