centerforce sucks

I have a centerforce DF with a billet steel flywheel and a stock T5. I am not having any problems and my gears dont grind. I am sure many people have great luck with the centerforce. Mabye it was something else besides the clutch. Did you have a professional look at the whole set up to diagnose the problem. I love mine over the stock set up. The pedal is nice and soft and real easy to shift. good luck

I've had that problem on a previous car as well as a freind on a different car. The clutch workes as stated, only at high rpm 7000+ it does not release fully(wieghts) got rid of it and things were better.
Also on a side note with the clutch to the floor and revving the engine the car would lunge forward.

Maybe some people don't break them in/install properly.

Never had any problems with em. I just went to see my first mustang the other day, drove it and the clutch still feels as good as when I put it in, and thats 3 or 4 motors later.

when it lunges forward, doesn't that mean it's not adjusted properly?

Centerforce is a generic clutch that can be picked up an almost any auto parts store...which means it sucks. Its alright for a stock replacement, but you couldnt pay me to install one of them in my car. The good stuff needs to be ordered through a distributor, ie: spec, mcleod ect ect.....centerforce on the other hand....shoprite

to me my spec 3 was a better value, holds more torque and cost less

I've used Centerforce before without any problem's, although my current set up is a McLeod Flywheel, Disc & Pressure Plate and I love it. Fairly friendly on the street and it's done it's job since day 1.
Centerforce is not a generic clutch. Were do you think the auto part's store's are getting them from?... From distributors. You can go to any Auto Part's store (Not that I do) and get anything from MSD to Trick Flow, basically to just about any big name in performance as these chain store's are buying there stuff from distributor's. You just pay through the ass is all, and the sale's people dont know s**t. I do agree that there are better clutch setup's out there like Spec, Mcleod etc. but Centerforce is definetly an alright clutch and dosn't deserve to be bashed. I own a small performance shop and I've been selling Centerforce for year's now, and pretty much all my customer's have nothing but good thing's to say. Mean88 obviously had some sort of alignment or adj./installation problem. There is no way the Centerforce was causing a problem like that.

agree with above post most pepboys, autozone, where ever you go sell name brand performance parts just that there marked up so much its not worth it, better off going to summit or jegs. And almost every clutch problem you hear about people always blame the clutch, when in fact its really the cheesey aftermarket clutch cable they bought or an inproperly adjusted one or the fact that they never did a proper 600 mile stop and go breakin without stompin on it.

are you for real??? you're kidding right? Centerforce is a top notch company, and one of the best clutches on the market. that's all that I need to say, that company doesn't need to be defended.

Next off, there is a whole lot of mis-information here. this is how BAD rumors and bad tech get spread around the internet.

CENTERFORCE DOES NOT SUCK. You've already stated your problem, and haven't even realized it. The entire reason you were having problems is that your clutch was mis-adjusted. The car was rolling forward at a stop when you gassed it because the cable was adjusted too loosely. Therefore, when you step on the clutch pedal, the clutch is not fully disengaging from the engine all the way. Not only are you burning your clutch out at the stop lights, but you are not dis-engaging enough to get into gear smoothely. By the time you've ripped the centerforce out, you've already burned through a considerable amount meat, your cable is still loose, and the brand new spec you just put in there has MUCH more meat on the disc now, which means it will grab a little more,...initially.

I get fusterated at peopl who talk **** on a product, spread the word around the internet that that product is crap, when the problem has been there own problem all along. I've recently installed a dual friction centerforce on my bros 88notch, which previously had a spec, they are both fantastic clutches, and if I wanted to, i could do full throttle power shifts in any gear with no grinding.

I'll turn the jerk off now, and offer help to you. There are several people in here who have cables adjusted too loosely, and you are having issues because of it. I have a lot of experience with clutch adjustements, so if you would like my help adjusting it properly, ask. In fact, read this, it is EVERYTHING you need to know about how to get your clutch adjusted properly so this won't happen.

To the original poster, if you don't fix your clutch adjustment problem, you are going to have the same problem before long again.

ninjacoupe, if you're shifting at 7000+ rpm, we're not talking about vtec hondas here.

I hope you are mistaken or confusing centerforce with some other company.

Centerforce makes TOP NOTCH clutches I have a dual friction cluctch in my car and it is awsome. Pedal pressure is like less than half of the factory clutch. Also the holding power is great. I can do a 5K drop and the clutch doesnt slip one bit. I paid close to $400 for my Centerforce from Jegs and absolutley love it, after a year with it.

funny how this thread came up. Myself and a friend put my Spec II clutch in today b/c my stock one wouldnet hold the power from the supercharger. Got it all installed, took it out for a spin......hammered on it in second gear, got about 6 PSI ( 5,000 RPMS )........... and it slips I suspect that it just needs to be broken in b/c it shifted pretty ****ty right after the install. Its getting better the more I drive it. I just dident expect it to slip at all b/c I know Spec is good stuff.

Spec is good but...... Break the thing in Man!!! Try not to hammer on it. The disc will not seat/grip, and allign right if not broken in proparly.
Problem's could arise man.......

Yeah I know it needs to be broken in but even so I expected it to hold b/c the stock one would hold 5 PSI or 4,000 RPM's before it slipped

exactly! a new disc has an uneven surface. A new clutch will NOT mate 100% flat with the resurfaced flywheel and pressure plate. It takes 500 miles or so for the disc to wear in and mate with the flywheel/pressure plate. YOu have a car with a LOT of power, and that is whey you experienced that. by gassing it too much like that, you're going to glaze the disc and the flywheel and ruin them, be careful before it's too late.

.....it takes 300-400 street miles to properly seat the disc against the flywheel....good job
