centerforce sucks

I hope you are mistaken or confusing centerforce with some other company.

Centerforce makes TOP NOTCH clutches I have a dual friction cluctch in my car and it is awsome. Pedal pressure is like less than half of the factory clutch. Also the holding power is great. I can do a 5K drop and the clutch doesnt slip one bit. I paid close to $400 for my Centerforce from Jegs and absolutley love it, after a year with it.

I said" its alright for a stock application" , which is exactly what your using it for, read carefully next time...you dont exactly have a High horsepower machine there, its just a 5.0 with some bolt ons. Its a good clutch for the stock relacement as we said and proven, but when your dealing with high dollar parts, such as the ORGINAL POSTER is, with his TKO Transmission, yuo do not want a Centerforce clutch taking the load the motor is dishing out.

Copied straight from Jegs...

Centerforce Dual Friction Clutch

Generates up to 90% increase in holding capacity over stock systems. This clutch/disk set is designed for use with engines producing high horsepower and torque output, and any radically altered high performance street vehicles. This system is also ideally suited for use with four-wheel drives using tall tires. Price includes pressure plate and disc.

To me that makes it sound like more than a stock replacement.

dude, i'm sorry, you just don't know what you're talking about. Stores tend to stock parts because they work, sell well, and get a minimal amount of returns. I suppose next you'll tell me the holley carbs and edelbrock intakes are "alright" for stock replacement because they sell them at parts stores.

How did you come to the conclusion that only good stuff is bought through mail order???

edit: cardudeusa beat me to the punch, take a look at the pressure plate design, the counter weights, and the disc design. If you can honestly say after looking at that that its a stock replacement clutch, then we don't need to argue anymore, because you really don't have experience at all that qualifies you. ALso, 90% more holding power is a WHOLE lot. Why would you need 90% more holding power over stock clutch for a stock replacement, and why in hell would they charge $350 and so many people willing to dish out that money for it?
fyi, a centerforce dual friction is a $350 high performance clutch. A $175 heavy duty frpp clutch is a "good" above stock replacement.

have you even installed a centerforce, bought one, or even looked at the design?? 2 seconds glance at the pressure plate and disc will tell you they mean business.

FYI, I can name numerous businesses and shops off the top of my head that WILL NOT sell or install spec clutches do to quality control problems and chattering issues. I'm NOT ragging on spec, i'm just telling you you need to get a reality check about clutches.

I work at Advance Auto, we sell Edelbrock, Holey, MSD, Malory, Autometer, Lunati, Accell, Mr Gasket and much more. Does that mean because they are parts store stuff, and you can "pick them up" at any parts store they are junk?

Whoah!!!! Disagree Sirsureshot39... I ran Centerforce Dual Friction setup (A used one I had laying Around Yet) on my 408/TKO (See Sig.) combo for a while without a single problem. I changed it since I had the motor out once and figured what the hell I'll put a new clutch in it, but it was still in great shape. I know guy's running 520HP to the wheel's running a Dual Friction and life span and performance of the clutch has not been an issue. Of course if you go with a Centerforce II or 1 than your getting into the stock to mild performance clutches that would not be sufficient for a High Power engine. I don't care what anyone say's, when it come's to a Dual Friction there a great clutch and I'd say are good up to 500-550HP at the wheel's. (Maybe More... I've seen it) Have you had a bad experince with Centerforce Sirsureshot39? Why do you have such a problem with Centerforce? I don't think you know what your saying.

Give some respect to Cardudeusa "it's just a 5.0 with some bolton's".... not exactly a nice thing to say man to a fellow stang enthusiast.

Your taking my statement out of context. Carbs, coils, gaskets, OK Fine, but I said that I would never install a Centerforce clutch in my car, reason being, iv seen to many people burn them up using high HP applications ( SEE SIG, I built that, so i know what im talking about). A clutch is one of those peices that me, and the other high hp motor guys WOULDNT purchase at your local Advanced Auto. Once your breached the 500 rwhp mark, the name centerforce doesnt get used anymore. Specs are "chattery" because they need to have an aggressive disc design in order to hold the HP being produced in order to neccessitate the need for a Spac stage 3 clutch. Centerforce has a grat design for the dual friction clutch with the counterweights and whatever else is hanging off of the pressure plate, but everyone knows that all the other clutches on the market dont have that "extra" stuff, and work flawlessly. If you wanna use centerforce, go ahead, i was just stating my experience for the orignal poster to gain from, since he is using a TKO transmission, which rules out the idea of him having a stock motor. Thats all, thanks.

.....it takes 300-400 street miles to properly seat the disc against the flywheel....good job :nice:

yeah I know it takes a few hunded miles to break it in but I figured it would hold right from the get go since the stock one held up to about 4,000 RPMS in third. Oh well I'll just drive around all day tomorrow and break it in before I hit the dyno on saturday

by gassing it too much like that, you're going to glaze the disc and the flywheel and ruin them, be careful before it's too late.

well we only tried it twice, I dident even want to at all but my friend talked me into it, first time it deff slipped, second time it wasent bad at all. after that I just drove home normaly and will put some miles on it tomorrow w/ alot of stop and go driving.

Check my sig Sirsureshot39. Like I said before I ran a USED Dual Friction on my 408 with no problem's at all, and I guess you could consider me a "high HP guy". We all have preference's I guess but the dude who started this thread obviously did something wrong. It had nothing do to with the clutch, he obviously screwed up installing it or breaking it in, which 90% of the time is the problem. It's that simple. And just because he has a TKO dosn't really mean he has a bunch of power.

And just because he has a TKO dosn't really mean he has a bunch of power. I think your a little to biased there man.

I was implying that he obviously doesnt have a stocker under the hood, and needs a transmission/clutch that will hold up to a beating, because he stated he had already gone through two T-5s already. Yea its been stated that his clutch cable hadnt been adjusted properly, which will....well i dont have to get into that. Yea ur considered a "high hp guy" , what trans were you using with the 408, and what was the duty of the car being used for?

I'm using a TKO. The car see's alot of street use (Not Easy Street Use). I use BF Radial Slick's and a 9" with 4:10 Gear's so there is some strain on the clutch, but the Centerforce held up. Currently I'm using a complete Mcleod setup, Bellhousing, Flywheel, P/Plate, Disc and it work's great. A little more stiff than the Centerforce though but of course it's a more agressive design. Well everyone can't agree on one thing, I was just trying to imply that Centerforce is alright for High HP to a certain degree. It does have it's limit's of course but it's a great clutch. For your application yes it would be border line that's for sure.

ninjacoupe, if you're shifting at 7000+ rpm, we're not talking about vtec hondas here.

rant off
HUH
All I said was that the clutch worked as advertised. A little too good for high rpm use due to the weights. What does that have to do with VTEC

Got it previouse Stang was an 84 notch with 351w and a TKO tranny.
Shoulda made that clear.
On another side note, after cutting the weights off the clutch would release.
I got that advise from some Other guys who had the same problems.

Internet rumors Yea alot of them around here.

Those weights are there to help push the clutch against the flywheel aren't they, so if you cut them off, did it grip as well? Is the car you put it in strong enough to test that? I bet that cutting off the weights weakened the clutch holding capacity... just my thoughts

i'm pretty sure those weights are there simply to give the centerforce the light clutch pedal effort that it has, I'm not positive, but am fairly sure it doesn't have anything to do with clamping abilities.

ninja coupe, i mentioned vtec, because 5.0's don't do 7000+rpm. You didn't mention at first you had a 351, but even those don't do 7k+, I'm pretty sure built to the hilt they still won't spin that fast. It may be possible, but with more money than any common folk is gonna have. Perhaps your tach is off?
