I replaced my factory brake pads today at 44k with some wagner thermoquiets.
My rear pads were completely worn, the drivers side was down to the metal (almost destroyed the rotor) and the passenger side had a paper thin layer left.

3 out of 4 pistons on the back were SEIZED. The only one left moving (and it wasnt exactly 'free') was the upper drivers side. That part of the pad is where its worn down to the metal much deeper than the lower side.
It took a bench vice and a hammer to loosen 2 of them, and it took a torch and penetrating lube to free the last one. I don't know how they didnt break with the force it took to free them. Cleaned 'em up good and they slide beautifully now though (thank god. im too broke for this stuff.)

I don't do alot of burn outs in my car, in fact all i've done i have on tape and its only 2 real smoke shows at 15sec or shorter. How could I have thrashed my brakes so bad?

My fronts, btw, had about 20% pad left and swapped with no problems at all. The lil antisqueel plastic sheet things were totally wasted though and shrivled up.

Hay I put some thermo quiets on my car about 2 weeks. No more squeeks but they feel very soft and they smell bad when you brake hard.

Do your pads do the same?
