my gas gauge does not work on my 1999 mustang so i bought a used one and put it on. i guess ford has an auto no start theft warning on the car because the car cranks, but does not start. just a blinking theft light. changed it back to the old one and the car started right up. what do i do to fix this situation? tired of counting miles and hoping i don't run out of gas! !!

For the 99+ model year the the anti-theft (PATS) system requires that the PCM and the cluster be programmed to EACH OTHER. Changing either one will cause PATS to activate.

Your options:
  • Drive the car to the dealer and swap the cluster in the parking lot.
  • Call a local locksmith. Be sure they understand that PATS needs to be re-programmed.
  • get a hand held tuner. Request a custom tune with PATS disabled.

Take a part all the screws from both clusters front and back and take the back of it completely apart switch the green electronic board from your cluster to the new one you should be able to unplug the one cable off it and then is as easy a pulling it off... Anyways put your electronic board from your cluster to the new one plug the wire back screw the cluster back togethee with the screws you remove plug it to your car and let it rip

I'm curious does doing this allow you to keep the odo correct? I have never messed with the cluster other than in my old 96' gt when I had to replace the old worn out odo gear. Ours are digital and swapping the cluster would change that I figured the way you guys are doing it might retain the mileage since it retains pats
