OK so I was just getting right around 180 miles to a full tank in the city.. now im a very spirted driver (damn NASA racing ) but i just thought that the new mustangs sucked monkey nuts when it came to good gas MPG.... but i recently did my 10000 mile tune up and decided since I was under the car I would change the fuel filter.. and WOW im glad i did, that thing looked like it was draggd in mud ...I did a complete fuel system flush and new filter changed all my fluids out with RP and HOLY ****ZZZAA ! 240 in the city with very spirted driving . And this whole time i though my tune just sucked ! Its always the simple things we forget to check ! Just thought I would share my NOOB moment !

Yup. I'll be doing that soon, too. I've heard a lot of people say their fuel filters were terrible.

41K miles and never checked my fuel filter, but I still manage between 280-300 miles per tank.

So what's the problem?

Ford put crappy fuel filters from the factory that clog up in a second and kill the gas mileage? If that's so I gotta ditch mine in a hurry because i'm getting 270-290 on the freeway. That's pretty damn bad I have to say.

Any recommendations on a good replacement brand?

In my old 240sx I could use a 300ZX twin turbo filter which was larger (better flow more cleaning element) is it the same with GT and the GT500 or are they both the same size fuel filters? A lot of parts websites make the distinction but they never show a parts item for the GT500.

400 miles out of every last drop of 16 gals=25MPG
I've NEVER gotten more than 315 and that was a whole tank cruising between 60-70 on the interstate.

Very carefully.

Per the Ford 2007 Mustang Workshop Manual:

1. NOTE: the fuel pump module fuse is located in the bussed electrical center, location F41.

Remove the fuel pump module fuse.

2. Start the engine and allow it to idle until it stalls.

3. After the engine stalls, crank the engine for approximately 5 seconds to make sure the fuel injection supply manifold pressure has been released.

4. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.

5. When fuel system service is complete, install the fuel pump module fuse.

6. NOTE: It may take more than one key cycle to pressurize the fuel system.

Cycle the ignition key and wait 3 seconds to pressurize the fuel system. Check for leaks before starting the engine.

7. Start the vehicle and check the fuel system for leaks.
