chassis stiffening

so the next thing i want to do is some SFC's. some driveways i go into at an angle really make the thing flex and make noise so im trying to help this.

i live near performance autosport (http://www.performanceautosport.com/) and they keep telling me of this really expensive deal that costs upwards of a few grand. you guys told me once before that was the torque box reinforcement. if i just get normal full length subframe connectors and have performance weld them in will that help allot? are these the ones that come up in my floorboard of my back seat? i can take out my interior and im in a mustang club so id have some kind of a discount, so is thsi about right. im not looking to spend more than 400-500 dollars right now. i just want something to hold me over until i can get the rest of the reinforcement stuff.

You can get a pair of subframes pretty cheap anywhere. If they want to charge 400 to 500 dollars I would buy them online and see how much they charge to weld them in. This will be a good start for the chassis. Then you can always look at strut tower braces too.

You can buy decent sbc's on ebay between 40 and 100 dollars. You can then go to a muffler shop and have them welded in for 100

I got my maximum motorsports full length subframes for under $200, I don't remember exactly how much. They just weld onto the bottom of the car, they don't go through the floor at all. Made a HUGE difference, would definately recommend it

Best thing I ever did. I have Steeda full lengths and no name torque box reinforcments on the lowers. Its a very noticible difference. I would go with a nice set of full length ones. Once they are one they are not that easy to remove, so your kinda stuck with what you go with first. And most of the nicer name brand ones that I have seen match the contours of the car so well that you would almost think they were from factory. I went with the steeda cause they looked like the MM ones that everybody likes but they came with a plate that helps support the front of the TB's and provides a more secure weld that is supposed to distrubute the load better. Any I thought it would help.

My install job cost a bit more cuase I needed to have my TBs straightened and repaired.

thanks for the pics.....The only thing I need to spend $$ on is the SFC's because I can take my car to work and use the drive on hoist and I am a good welder and my boss is a wicked welder....

So should I get Steeda's or MM

Griggs SFC on mine......SFC in general make a big difference and I would suggest to anyone to put them on ASAP along with torque box braces.

Agreed, SFCs should be the very FIRST Mod you do to a Fox Car!

i'm not positive if the set is still available but for under $500 you can purchase the kenny brown 3 piece kit with super subs, strut tower brace, and lower g-load brace. i noticed a HUGE difference when i installed the kit on mine and have had no issues. shop around for subframe installation costs, a local muffler shop did mine for $50 while other shops quoted me up to 4x that amount.

If they are wanting 400 for labor, never step foot in that place again.

Buy some Steeda or MM full length SFC's and go to a muffler shop, and have them weld them in for <$100. Make sure that they have the suspension loaded when they lift the car, and don't lift it by the chassis.

I know this sounds odd; but along with subframes, a few tie ins here and there and a 10 point cage I also welded id say 75%of all body seams. Hell if you were local I would do the welding for you for nothing.

Made a gigantic difference.

Takes a good deal of time and you basically have to have the car stripped down to nothing, but trust me when I say that its worth it. Been working in a chassis shop for just over 6 years and a lot of people 'want' to do it but a lot of people cannot afford to have a car down for the time it takes to strip it out and do all the work.

My cost to have full lengths welded in was 2 hrs labor at $70 each. Make sure to paint the many weld areas afterwards. Great mod just not sure if I can place jack stand under them when I need the car up

Getting some SFC's too and at the same time reinforcing my torque boxes as they are starting to tear :$ Best mod to do on a fox, one of my friends has connecting frames and the car feels 200x more solid.

You could try to put some viagra in the gas tank, that should make the car stiff for a little while lol

i put maximum motorsports double cross sfc's under my vert and it helped alot,but what helped more than anything is the strut tower brace ask anyone who has put one on they will tell you that they didnt realize that the firewall was the weekest part of a foxbody till after it was installed.i could tell a world of difference afterwards.
