I've been meaning to put this info up in case anyone was interested but I kept forgetting. If you didnt know, you can buy individual pieces of exhaust from your local parts store. Most stores have a dynomax catalog and in it, you can find 2.5 inch mandrel bent pieces for your Mustang. If you buy the midpipes and tailpipes in pieces and then buy there cheapo dynomax mufflers, you can have a brandnew mandrel 2.5 inch catback for about $175. Then with those pieces you can either clamp it or weld it, your choice. Its easier to do it in pieces too so you can get the pipes over the axle without dropping it. It sounds fine too, any offset/center muffler will work.
Tip number 2: How to make cheap catted X-pipe. If your like me, a straight X-pipe can be too loud, and a catted setup is way too money, $399. So make your own. Alot of Ebay stores sell offroad Xpipes for less than $150. Take that, and 2 small 2.5 inch universal cats for about $50 a piece and weld them in. If you dont have a welder, a local shop will do it for $20-40. Its a little more work, but can save you a hundred bucks which you can put towards your catback setup.
If you think about it, if you used just the offroad X-pipe, you could build a complete brand new exhaust system with equal length shorties for about $525. You could go for cheaper but I dont like using used exhaust parts. Still, some vehicles cost $500 just for the headers, so to do a full system for that change is awesome. I know alot of this isnt new, but people should be aware that they dont need to drop $350-500 for an aftermarket catback when they can get one locally for half. Rust in Pieces, Scot Rod
