Cheaper rear disc brackets...

A while back I remember somebody saying there is a guy (don't know if he his a member on here) that makes the brackets for the rear disc conversion with stock lengh axles and he sold them for a little bit cheaper than the NRC ones on ebay . If somebody can get me a link or his ebay name or whatever, I would appreciate it. I've been searching for about an hour with no luck.

Thanks man, I'll check that out. Any money I save will be spent on other parts, and I have waited off on the bracket purchase.

I had NRC cobra brackets and they made a ton of noise with no anti moan brackets, and then i switched to GT brakes using cut stock brackets and they were super quiet, no noise from them at all.

you should really cut them this way though, not in two pieces

Thanks for posting that link. I cut it like that instead of 2 pieces and it worked perfect. I would much rather use 3 bolts instead of 2.

I have a set of NRC brackets for sale that I didn't use. I had to get the Baer brackets to run 12" rotors out back. These brackets are sprayed black. Send me a PM with an offer if interested.

I'm getting ready to do this myself instead of the north race brackets. I figure basically for the cost of the north race brackets alone I can get the entire cobra rear brake kit from ford and use this method. Seems more cost efficient as I'm also getting new rotors, dust shields, & moan braces. Anyway, my question is how easy is it cutting the brackets and what did you use? Thanks..

The brackets look thick, but they're not that bad. I used a sawzall. On that link posted above, some guys said they used hack saws, but theres no way.

I started the cut with a hack saw, then used my sawzall to finish going down.

You could also use a cut off wheel, but it would of taken forever with my wimpy little air compressor.

My first thought was a cut off wheel. I guess I'll see what works best when the day actually comes. Other than that the install was straight forward using this method?

cut off wheel on an angle grinder will work mint, after that the install is easy, and BTW, i ran myne with no antimoan brackets and the brakes made ZERO noise after. The NRC brackets were loud as hell with no antimoans, but i think because the stock brackets are so thick that they dont require them, at least thats how it worked out for me

It's very easy, once you cut the square out of the bracket, it just slides on and the bolts fall into place.

I don't plan on running the anti moan brackets so I hope they work out like your did 90lxcoupe.

1 more question.. did you end up have to use any washers as indicated in step 5 of the instructions?

I didn't use any washers, the only thing I did that was posted in that link was cut the square out. Everything lined up perfect.

I had to use washers to get the brackets centered on the disc, just put one lug nut on the disc, then eyeball it where the bracket is centered. For what its worth i think that what you pay for the north brackets they should be on the money with one or two washers, and when i used the NRC brackets i had to use alot of washers, when i switched to the GT brackets, i had to use one or two washers to get it lined up within .005"

^^^^ I agree. I think I used 2 washers per bolt. For 150 bucks they should be dead on!!!!

Wow, i was actually thinking of fabbing my own brackets, but this is awesome!

Thanks for the info and links, guys. I think im going to weld the section i cut out back in though, make it permanent.

I thought about that, but really i dont think its worth the work that would involve, and its nice to be able to take them off whenever you want, i wish i still ran these brackets, but i had to switch back to north race cars brackets because i hade 9" end welded to my rear.
