Just wondering what the cheapest setup is. I crave more power, and I know building a NA 4.6 is expensive. I think 2k something is on the cheaper end, anyone know of a better deal?

to the best of my knowledge, you cant get a cheap one...you will need a tune (either chip or xcal) on the dyno, injectors, probably a clutch, a fuel pump, MAF, iat relocation etc. the mongoose kits are probably your best bet.

ive never heard real good things about that s/c, and it doesnt look like it will fit 99 and ups. and it claims a 55hp gain over production levels. thats ****ty. im at 6 psi and put down over 344 hp with a plenum and midpipe.

Another cool thing about the MPH kits is that if you already have an X-Cal 2, Tim will knockoff something like $130 off the cost and you just send him your tuner, then he'll upload his tunes.

Or you could just buy the whole kit then sell the xcal for 330 and make yourself 200 bucks off of it.

Actually just found this one...

Thats not a bad price. It says its for 96-98's with PI heads, but I imagine it would work with a PI engine since it bolts to the PI heads... Maybe I read it wrong, im dead tired. Seems like a pretty complete kit if it would fit on a 99+ engine.
That is not a complete kit. You will still need to buy the install kit which is @1000 dollars. and that blower makes more then 55hp.

Can you sell a used xcal2? I thought they were burned for your computer code. No? I was going this route (sending Tim my current xcal2) but you are making me think...

Really….I’ll bet that all of the people you’ve talked to with negative things to say about this blower have never owned one. I’ve heard nothing but good things to say with regards to that kit from their actual owners. I know several guys running this blower on Thunderbirds and a couple of Mustangs and they love it. Sure, it's limited as far as horsepower capability is concerned, because of the lack of after cooler, but the Eaton series blowers are hands down the most durable and reliable units being built today. Not to mention most inexpensive to produce. The all aluminum intake won't crack like the stock plastic upper and its stealthy compact design snuggles right into the engine bay almost invisibly.

Comparing it to a PI car with a Novi 1000 and bolt-ons isn't exactly fair either!?! That's like comparing a stock GT Mustang to a modified one. Even taking into account it's upper limitations, this blower will still put down far more torqe than most centrifugals in the low-end ranges.....regardless of thier size The 55hp claim associated with this blower is on the conservative side to say the least and is based on rear-wheel figures on a bone stock '96 non-PI engine. A later model '99-up engine with better heads and cams will benefit even more. Not to mention, how many "bone stock" Mustangs do you see roaming the street? Any intake and exhaust modifications on top of that increase dramatically in comparison to a N/A application.

Aside from their limited horsepower capability, I've never heard a single bad thing said about this charger!

GearBanger... Thanks for putting some insight to that kit. Will it fit a 99+ though? I might look into it if it will, start putting aside a supercharger fund... AND I can knock off replacing the factory plastic manifold if I did that.

Im not looking for crazy power, I rather have a safe combo that makes decent power and save the engine and tranny a little than be balls out fast. 55 hp would be noticable no doubt though, but like said more on a PI with mods and whatnot.

Edit: Looks like the install kit is 1200 bucks... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/FORD...cmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33741QQitemZ7917858872

holy crap... never mind.

1)Actually i have talked to quite a few people that owned this and werent completely satisfied with it.
2)Why would he wanna buy something that you cant even expand on later due to the fact that it is limited in power.
3)This guy has a PI car, so i was telling him what to expect...we arent even talking about non-PI cars except for the ****ty HP claims for this blower on a PI car.

Correct me if Im wrong, but I don't think it will work on a 99+ just for 96-98 PI headswap's. I think its something to do with the fuel systems?
They make it for NPI heads and PI heads.
And if I ever go with a s/c that will be the one I will choose!

And what was it that they weren't satisfied with besides what points I’ve already mentioned? If you’re going to make the statement to downplay the unit, that's fair enough, but at least back it up with a valid reason to fortify your accusation. Otherwise, an open ended comment like that is just pissing in the wind and is nothing more than wasted bandwidth. :)

That's kind of a funny statement coming from a guy who went with a Novi 1000 on his car when it too is very limited as far as making horsepower and torque is concerned. Why didn't you go with the Novi 2000....or an S-Trim? Both blowers have the potential to make much more power than the 1000 for a very small increase and in the case of the Vortech the same price and still remain emissions legal. People buy, what they can afford. If we were all out to buy the blower that could be upgraded to make the most amount of power later on down the road, we'd all be driving around the largest, most expensive bolt on blowers available.

Although the FRPP unit is limited in horsepower capability, that’s not to say it isn’t a performer. It's still more than enough blower to put a '99-up Mustang into the high-12 with relative ease and enough for low-12’s to high-11's with all the popular bolt-ons. I'd say that's a pretty good bang for the buck, wouldn't you?

I mistakenly though his car was a pre-99 for a moment based on the statement you yourself made that it would only make 55hp. No biggy, it was an honest mistake on both our parts, but if you want to get bent out of shape about bringing pre-99 Mustangs into the conversation, blame the guy who initially started it . ;)

....anything else?

heres some #'s from a car with PI heads:

before FRPP Blower
250hp/285tq

After FRPP Blower 6PSI
330hp/341tq
(#'s are from Greenfowsix's car)

thats a 85RWHP gain. Thats not bad at all for a extremely reliable street blower.

When my build is done i'll let you know how it works with a built shortblock/9psi/blower cams etc.
