I'm really looking forward to seeing this Charger. I, along with many others, loved the 99 concept with its two full size doors and two smaller doors (like the RX-8) and I understand the next Charger will be similiar to this idea. I do wish that the production model would look like the concept, but I can really appreciate a 340hp 5.7 Hemi in the car or even the rumored 6.1 Hemi being in there. However, a six speed manual should be at least offered.
For me, the Charger could likely make a lot of sense me being a family man now and could be the car I've been waiting for. Pay off the Cobra and cross my fingers for the Charger...that's my plan!

And he is right but I don't think Ford is willing to now just sit back and let other companies ride rough shod over them. Let's say those three engine choices are remotely accurate. The V6 version will be nothing to be concerned about for a V6 05. The 4.7 V8 puts out 235 horses stock well below what the GT is offering and even if they massage a little more out of it they would be looking at like 250-260 horses tops. Now the massaged 6.1 Hemi for the R/T. I'd expect this one to be underrated but even at 425(maybe 450-460 actual output)horses it doesn't really outdo the supercharged 4.6 4v Cobra by much. Now take that into the context it'll likely be pushing a sigfinicantly heavier car than the Mustang then as far as ETs are concerned I wouldn't put the Charger as it is on paper(bench racing at it's finest here I know),versus what the 05 may have,(again on paper)past the Mustang.
I expect that probably the engine choices will be the 3.5L V6 rated at 250hp in the base model and probably a RT model rated at 340hp with the 5.7L Hemi. You can almost count on Dodge doing a SRT version of these LX platform cars. What will that powertrain be? 6.1 Hemi? Supercharged 5.7 Hemi? Who knows? However, keep in mind that when the Mangum wagon was first displayed, Dodge did so with a 425hp supercharged 5.7 Hemi.
The major factor with all the Charger models will be the weight of it. From my understanding, the car will be built on a shortened LX platform and there could be some weight saving somewhere in the car. I'm guesstimating that the Charger will probably weigh in somewhere around 3600-3700 lbs.
I think what yellow5.0cobra is saying is that The Mustangs entry level V8 has always been behind the others in performance. 5.0L vs. LT1, 4.6L vs. LS1. and chances are the new 3v 4.6L will will fall short of the entry level V8 Chager. My guesses for Charger HP are 350HP for the 5.7L, 425HP for the 6.1L.
Ford has some great engine tech coming down the pipeline with the 3v engines, but they lack displacement, Just imagine if they would give us a 5.7L version of the 3v V8
The only way the hemi will have any torque and have 325 or more hp is with premium fuel. I was so disappointed that premium fuel was required for the hemi . They just increase the timing alot to get another 15 rwhp out of these engines which is an expensive for the consumer way to gain power. So far it looks like the hemi will be a special edition and the mass produced car will have the 4.7L Which will considerably neuter it compared to the competition. I would expect more in line with 265-275hp like the 99-04's. And you guess are already calling defeat? Like it even really matters for 1 and for 2 this is still a vehicle that hasn't even been shown at an autoshow yet!

Z28x is right. Actually, 89 octane isn't even required. The Hemi is designed to run on both 87 and 89, however 89 is the recommended fuel for optimum power. One thing very important to keep in mind is that the Hemi going into the LX cars will have displacement on demand, meaning that the Hemi drops back 4 cylinders at cruise and instaneously runs all 8 when the gas is pressed. I think it was Edmunds that did a pre-test on the Magnum and they said that the change happens so fast that you don't even notice. Of course, the benefit is that this 340hp/390 lbs.ft torque 5.7 Hemi will get somewhere around 30-32 mpg on the highway, but smoke down the tires when the need arises. Finally, the MSRP on the Dodge Magnum RT (Hemi model) will be around $30,000 and I would imagine the Charger will be able to be had for less than that.
The 4.7L will stay in the trucks and Jeep Grand Cherokee for the time being if not permanently. Its never even been discussed publicly about being an option in the cars from what I've read. For one thing, the 4.7 is more expensive to build than the Hemi is. My Hemi option on my truck was just $895. Then transmission required for the Hemi costs more than the engine does! In the 300 and Magnum the base engine is the 2.7L V6, mid-level engine is the 250hp 3.5L V6 (from the previous 300 M) and the 5.7 Hemi. One other thing to keep in mind is that Intrepid is dead and Dodge will either get out of NASCAR (very unlikely now) or the Charger will be the new entry which probably means a much sleeker styled car than the Magnum wagon.
