I was wondering if anyone has ever thought about putting the engine& 5 speed trqansmission from a 05+ GT into an older 65-69 mustang? I am looking to start a project car and have talked a little about this but wondered if anyone has tried this yet or has heard anyone doing this. All comments appreciated.

Well, the 4.6/5 spd is nothing that hasnt been done before, so it shouldnt be terribly hard to get it to physically fit. The only trouble may come in getting the electronics to work, seeing as how it has a drive by wire throttle. I would think that even that wouldnt be all THAT hard, but that 3v engine is still fairly new so you may be breaking new ground with getting the electronics to work right.

You've got that backwords.

The electronics are a slam dunk compared to front halfing the car to get that dinosaur mod motor in between the shock towers.

Drive by wire is a cake walk, just retain the pedal.

ok here we go... dont know if you guys have done it but I have...well about 3/4 of the way

Its a PITA to fit a 4.6mod motor in a classic stang. Best option is a Mustang II front suspension and it involves lots of cutting and welding. So make sure you have the tools for that. Expect to spend about $1800 minimum in the front suspension and steering...

the electronics are also a PITA... searching pinouts and wiring diagrams for HOURS on end to find out you still cant find out why its not working. Best bet is to buy a Haines manual for the specific year motor you are getting. I know you can get a 3v cheap (stock) but then add in your computer and harness. The drive by wire can be solved by swapping the throttle body out. NoLimit racing or someone like that has a throttle body that will work on the 3v motor that is not drive by wire.

After doing it all...I probably wouldnt do it again> Id rather go EFI with a 302/351 and be done

here are some pics of the engine bay after the MII suspension

Thanks for all your responese so far. I am still looking for car so I am far away but better to research up front and have a plan as soon as possible. BTW I was planning on a Heits MII front end swap no matter what I do just to clean up the engine bay. Since I doubt I can afford or find a numbers car I don't feel bad about modernizing on the restore.

its good to hear you are planning way ahead...Plan your build and stick with it. Get what you want, dont wish you did later. Also, whatever you think its gonna cost, double it.
