cleaning the block?

Hey need some advice, I took apart a 302 engine that had the head gasket blow and and the oil/anti-freeze/water all mixed up covered the whole inside of the motor . Could anyone give any suggestions to how to clean up the block, with do it yourself cleaning supplies that wont hurt the block? Or is it something i would want to take to a engine shop and have them do it?

Try oven cleaner. I read an article in mm&ff about using it a while back and I tried it and it worked great. Just be sure to rinse the block and heads thoroughly afterwards and dry it good. Good luck.

after you clean it, either paint it or spray it down with wd40 and cover it with a plastic bag or it will start to rust within 5 minutes. granted its only surface rust and will wash off easily. the best bet to dry it is to use compressed air so that you can blow all the little holes out. if you really want to do it right take all the freeze plugs out also. or just take it to a machine shop and have them clean it and do all the machine work to it.

Thanks guys, I think im going to call around tomorrow to see how come some place want to clean it out, probably be easier n get it all done.
