ok my 87 gt has become harder to shift in pretty much all gears. just seems like first is the worst though. it gets easier when i brace myself and shove like crazy on the clutch pedal. also its gotten to where i'm having a hell of a time getting into reverse without it barking at me. used to be i could just play with it a little by maybe shifting into a different forward gear and then try reverse again and presto. i changed over to a tko 500 with centerforce clutch bout a year ago. stock cable and quadrant. i've tried adjusting clutch pedal by holding it down and lettin it pop up to take out slack. notta. i'm thinkin maybe i should try new billet quadrant and firewall adjuster. since i can't visibly see any problems withe the cable i probly could go ahead and get another stock cable. seems like i've read someplace they stretch over time. several people have told me that the adjustable cables kinda suck and to stick with ford oem cable. jump in here any time guys if i'm off base cause i really haven't done messed with this stuff before. i saw a website some time ago that looked promising. it had all the parts i'm wanting but i lost the bookmark. it showed comparison pics between aftermarket and stock cables. they favored stock cable with their custom fabricated steel quadrant. i know thats pretty vague but thats bout all i remember bout it. anybody know that site or could recommend one that can hook me up?

have u tried pullin up on the cable so it clicked and then press it couple times??

what exactly is happening, is there just slack in the pedal?

but it might be just the teeth on the stock quadrant starting to wear away.
a centerforce is a stout clutch, could be putting to much stress on it. and paired with the stiff shifting TKO it could be just like what u explained.

i suggest go ahead and make the aftermarket cable and quarant swap.
I've used the stock cable and the FWA, i didnt like it. I suggest get the adjustable. Either way u need to get an alum quadrant.

I got a FRPP adj cable and its great, just like stock cable if not better.
I went through 5 parts store cables before i got this one and its great and works like a champ.
WHATEVER U DO DONT GET PARTS STORE CABLES EVER FOR ANYREASON, THEY SUCK ASS.

i'd say get the alum quad along with an adj cable. I like it better since your actually changing the length of the cable. with a FWA your just widening the loop of the cable and it doesnt seem as good.

yup i pulled up on the pedal and there's no click or slack as far as i can tell. i'm definitely buying a new quadrant but i'm wondering which one to buy. i'm thinking with steeda you have to use their adjustable cable and can no longer use stock oem cable. just hate to be limited to certain cables with the quadrant i buy. also, whats the difference between double or triple hook quadrants? that brings me to the firewall adjuster. how does that figure in? i might not like it but what i had in mind to try was aluminum quadrant, stock cable, and firewall adjuster but i'm definitely open to suggestions.

if your using the stock cable you'll want a quadrant and fire wall adjuster, to adjust the stock cable.

the stock ratcheting quad is what adjusts the stock cable. the new quad is aluminum one piece, so you use a fire wall adjuster in the hole where the cable comes through to adjust the cable. here's a pic of a stock plastic quad and a one piece aluminum....and then a pic of just the aluminum quad and fwa.

www.maximummotorsports.com has the clutch cable and comparisons you are talking about. I just ordered one of their "oem" universal cables today. I have a UPR quadrant and FW adjuster with the stock style cable. It is a lot easier to adjust with the FW adjuster than the adjustable cable I had a long time ago.
