clutch break in, what to expect?

alright im about half way through my clutch/tranny break in, what should i expect in ways of funny noises/smelling alittle clutch here and there? and pedal feel?

At the halfway point (around 200 miles or so?), I would not expect much in the way of funny stuff. Most of the gassing and bed-in (kind of a clutches equivelant to burnishing) should be about done.

The clutch might have needed to be adjusted but that is about all. I never really noticed a change in pedal feel with a new clutch during its break-in, but maybe others have.

huh?

You might experience a little bit of chatter while the clutch wears in, but that should subside over time, and it may or may not require some adjustment based on how it grabs. Just be sure to follow the recommended break-in procedure, and you should be good. I don't believe I've ever smelled any clutch after installing a new one, and if there is any smell, I'd immediately inspect it for unusual wear, or improper adjustment before the new one is fried.

i still wanna know if by milage and break in that means or includes highway driving or stop and go?? does it matter?? for example driving it around town for x amount of miles i would think would break it in faster than say hopping on the interstate and taking a trip...

Typically those miles are considered to be around town stop and go miles, since you could technically hop on the interstate and eclipse the recommended mileage by several thousand, but still have only used the clutch a handful of times.

The 500 miles is probably "average" miles. Not just stop and go and not just highway.

i never really broke in my KC clutch. I was all worried about it, but i was so anxious about the new 5 speed i didnt really break it in..

i didnt go around dumping the clutch and doing donuts or anything. I waited a while b4 i ever dumped the clutch.... But i wasnt afraid to get on the gas a little bit.

clutch feels the same now as it did when i first started using, works great.

well i was driving up to the local lake ( lots of twists and turns) and i accidentally downshifted into the wrong gear and it revved to like 3500 after that i smelled some clutch but it went away after a few min. i know im prolly just being paranoid just tryin to make sure im not gonna screw up my clutch

I am with others - the break-in is most effective if it is a mix of driving styles, but with nothing too extreme - like downshifting where revs are not matched exactly (a non-matched downshift is one of the hardest things on a clutch).

When i put in my new clutch, I drove it like I did normal. I didnt beat on it like normal but that was also cuz it was a new motor at the same time. After the first day I forget all about having to break in the clutch, I forget i had a new clutch really, felt the same and all as my old one. Guess depends on how everyone slips on the clutch when they take off and shift, but when i took my old clutch out it looked fine and it had at least 20k on it.
