Clutch Cable Install Please Help

I have a 91 lx with a tremec trans, my clutch pedal started getting heavy and shifting was hard at times and finally went, i replaced the cable yesterday and the pedal is super hard to push in , i dont remember how the cable was routed so maybe i have it routed wrong and its too tight? I'm slowly learning on working on my mustang so im a newbie any help would be great , pics would be great! Thank you!

Try re-routing the cable and allow it to basically "lay" where it wants to lay when attached at each end.

Check you pedal feel.

If it's good then secure the cable as close to it's natural position as possible taking care that it doesn't touch any moving parts.

If that doesn't work then I'd say your cable is probably bent or kinked or just junk (adjustable cables for instance).

The only cable worth using on a Fox is is an OEM style cable that you can purchase from Maximum Motorsports as well as a few other vendors.

Not the one that I would have picked and could possibly be the source of your pedal pressure problem.

Try the steps that I've outlined above and let us know how it goes.

It should make a fairly straight sideways "U" from the firewall, forward of the headers, down, then back near the engine mount, straight at the clutch fork. If it bends any other way anywhere, it's wrong. Including using the bracket to tie it to the inner fender. If that's causing it to bend over to the side, remove the bracket.

this may be a stupid question but the way it's routed now if you disconnect both sides and pull on each side of the cable and the thin wire moves back and forth does that not mean anything

If I understand your comment correctly, it indicated that the cable is working. The inside cable should slide pretty freely within the casing.

Even this one:

with how it it is coiled, should slide freely.

Yes it slides back n forth but when i connect each end , one to quadrant and 1 to trans. Pedal is super tough to push in maybe theres another issue

Just had the same issue. I tried to adjust the cable underneath but it remained hard and heavy. I'm not sure if spraying wd40 into the cable is what worked but all I did was uninstall the cable spray the wd40 and routed it back and surprisingly i fixed it the pedal has never been this soft.

Make sure your routing is correct like mentioned above.. basically a big U

Also disconnect the cable and poor some motor oil down the tube until it comes out the other end then move the cable back and forth a little. The cable will now stay lubed. I've done this for years on many cars and have had zero issues with the el cheapo autozone clutch cables and even had the steeda adjustable that you pictured.

Yet another reason to NEVER buy ANY aftermarket adjustable cable. They are not constructed like the factory one and just don't operate as freely.

My 1986 clutch felt perfect and it was routed from firewall straight towards front header tube then screwed to frame and then headed back down towards the bell housing. Maybe your quadrant is bad ??

Did you make sure to adjust the quadrant after the cable install??
Place your foot or hand underneath the clutch pedal and pull upwards on it until it stops.Now release the pedal,place your foot on the pedal and press it to the floor slowly,while listening for an audible click.If you hear this noise,the cable was out of adjustment and its now corrected.

You failed to read the post where he said that he had an adjustable clutch cable. That means in order to get it to work correctly, he should have an aftermarket solid quadrant, not the stock factory adjustable quadrant.

It should look like one of these ...
