Clutch chatter

Got a question... Sometimes when I release the clutch in 1st gear, I get a popping noise near my feet, and it feels like someone is knocking as well.

Is this clutch chatter? Never had it with my f-bodies.

It has been occurring more since I installed my O/R X-Pipe, but I think that's because I have been releasing the clutch at a lower RPM so I don't disturb my new neighbors:p

The pedal also seems lighter, but I think that may be me just getting more acclimated with the car... It has been 3 years since I have daily driving a manual.

I had this a few time through the years, If you recently had the clutch replaced then oil or grease may have gotten on the pads and this will cause some banging and clattering. I forget why I did it when I put the Long Tube headers and mid-pipe on, but for some reason I remembered pulling the clutch cable housing on the outside of the bell housing and needed to lift up on the pedal to reset the cable after I put it back on. If you don’t the pedal feels lighter and doesn’t let it fully engage. Lastly and my best guess check the clearance around the trans, the mid-pipe might be contacting the trans and you may feel, and hear them banging together. They might look ok but you should have several inches of clearance. Have someone aggressively shake your exhaust pipes and watch to see if it moves up and makes contact. If you check these and it all looks good then keep searching.

It did just start leaking a small amount of oil... It will leave a tiny spot after sitting over night. I noticed oil built up near the rear of the engine/front of the trans... I know it's not the exhaust as I triple checked the clearance...

I figured I would do the clutch sometime this winter and if the rear seal is bad, replace that as well...

Update...

Just changed the tranny fluid tonight and rechecked the bolts from my mid pipe install... One of the u-bolts was the culprit... It was contacting the trans cross member. I don't know how that happened as I checked it twice before setting down the car. Anyways, it's gone and the trans feels a bit smoother as well.:nice:
