Clutch component creaking in last inch of travel

My best guess is it's the clutch cable starting to go bad but I wanted to confirm.

A clutch component will make a creaking noise in the last inch of travel. The effort seems fine, but I'm used to the ACT 2600 in the Talon so it could be heavier than normal.

I'm guessing cable since it's the original with 120K on it. Could this noise be caused by the fork at all?

The car still has the original clutch in it so I know it's on borrowed time but it holds well and has just a little chatter in reverse.

I'd think it would more likely be the quadrant down by the clutch pedal vs. the fork. Can you pinpoint the noise to under the car or down by your feet?

It definitely is coming from the area of the clutch fork. I do still have the plastic quadrant and surprisingly it isn't broken but it will be replaced when I get the MM kit just a preventative maintenance.

While searching for a possible cause I came across a post from someone saying it was their pressure plate that was causing the creaking noise.

Is this likely to be the cause? If it is does that indicate it is on its way out or just aged?

I have the noise but its definitrly down by my feet. Sometimes it goes away. I still have the stock quadrant and the genius before me actually replaced the original with another stock plastic quadrant. Things practically brand new (teeth are still sharp!) but its at the bottom of its travel thanks to a worn clutch.

It's most likely the fingers on your pressure plate being compressed. I had this same problem when the fingers on my pressure plate were bent. Also, if you have a high pressure clutch, then it is not uncommon. This assumes of course that your interior clutch assembly, clutch cable, TB, and retainer are in good operational condition.

This is still the stock 120K mile clutch, everything is original. I definitely don't have the other common issues like TOB chirping, just this creaking sound in the last inch of travel both up and down.

You said that you got this noise when the fingers were bent on your pressure plate. Is there any way to check that with the transmission in the car? Did you experience any other symptoms when you had the bent fingers?

my Centerforce stage II creaks sometimes....and the pedal does when the clutch isn't. oh-well

alot of times it's the firewall flexing where the cable comes through the firewall.

I have the same niose. I have a new King Cobra clutch (1yr old) new cable and steeda quad that was installed recently. If you find out what it is please update. I thought it might be the fork as well, but it sounds like it might be the pressure plate.

Still have the problem. I have finally quited all of the noises down in the car except this. Anyone have a fix?
