Clutch Engagement Point Is Varying

I thought it was in my head at first but lately I've been noticing that occasionally it seems like the clutch is engaging at different points. Sometimes it will engage right as I'm releasing the pedal from the floor and other times it don't engage until the pedal is a 1/4 of the way out (the way I want it).

I almost stalled the car the other day because I was letting it out quick until I hit the friction point but it engaged like an inch off the floor.

Thought it might have been my shoes, or the floor mat getting caught under the pedal but I don't believe that's the case.

Ideas?

if you are still running the stock quadrant, the plastic auto-adjuster might have teeth that are worn. get an aluminum quadrant and adjuster, set it where you want it and it should be fine. unless your cable is taking a crap of course.

Weird, mine does the same thing every once in awhile. Doing the clutch adjustment procedure doesnt change it either when it's happening. It just seems to go away on it's own. Haven't had that happen in a while though...

Yup, I would attribute it to the stock quadrant/self adjuster. Mine seems to like adjusting itself during hard launches and when power shifting. Sometimes the engagement point rises, and sometimes it goes lower, but only when I abuse it HARD. Normal driving and even spirited shifting, it holds the position, wherever it happens to be.
In your case, it might be a good idea to take a look at the quadrant and consider replacing it. Have fun with that, you will likely end up sitting in your seat upside down. lol

Yeah, its easy. Make sure you get a kit with the firewall adjuster and read the directions. It is a little uncomfortable because you have to lay upside down in your seat, but its worth it. It allows you to take the slop out of the clutch and adjust the release point.

I just bought a fire wall adjuster from summit and an aluminum quadrant w/ spacers. If your stock clutch cable is still in good shape, there is no need to replace it. Although I had to chop a plastic retainer off of my cable to make it work. Easy stuff though.
